health care spending account was very useful
Difficult to port pension when leaving without tax implications
Good health and dental plan is provided.
The money is only enough for survival. You may need to work as a teaching assistant to make enough money. Graduate students with family have the option to rent family house that is available at low price specifically for graduate students.
It's the normal academic package
There is nothing really good or bad about the benefits package. There is some basic coverage as would be expected at any institution. I didn't really avail of too many of the benefits, so can't really comment on any of them.
Excellent benefits package. You will still need to supplement with private insurance and emergency savings so you don’t end up with struggling to pay your bills . WSIB/WCB/EI sickness is great but can be difficult to collect.
This is a great benefits package! It covers a broad range of healthcare services. Being someone with a chronic illness it was very good to have. Though this is great, something that was even better was the pension matching. It is not something that every company does and it will really be beneficial down the road.
Friendly environment flexible hours New things to learn everyday
Positives: The benefits the union affords are really great for old people and people with families. Negatives: Forced to pay a huge amount into your pension every month even when young and there is limited support for undertaking post grad formal education (a Masters at U of T as opposed to OISE)
