United Way, California Capital Region, is addressing the woeful lack of financial literacy in America by introducing the concept of saving to the very youngest students--kindergarteners! With a seed of $25 donated to each student's account, they kicked off the college savings of these youngsters and their families. The Young Leaders Society that launched this program know they're on the right track. Studies show that if a child has even a small amount saved for college, he or she is three times more likely to attend and four times more likely to graduate.
