    Pluspunten

Great place to push your boundaries, experiment and succeed!
My manager (senior lead in my department) gave comprehensive and ongoing feedback and expressed recognition when goals were exceeded.
Salary and benefits are competitive for the local market (in Latin America, apparently not the same for California based colleagues).
Team oriented culture, a lot of autonomy and opportunities to take your ideas to the next level.
Very PR focused company, and a great company to do comms and PR.
Incredible passion for what they do, their products, games, and company history.
Very talented people in the Game Development teams and international publishing teams (Marketing, PR, Community, Biz Dev, etc)
    Work life balance is decent
My team leader and senior regional leader encouraged team members to be bold and not to be afraid of trying new things. It's a great way to do "creative and bold" marketing and PR.
    Robust onboarding process.
A lot of trust from middle management in the regions.

    Minpunten

Interview process, hiring and oboarding can be tough for international workers where Blizzard does not have robust physical operations. Mine took over 6 moths for example. Company is improving in this regard and dealing with this growing pains however.

Small teams and flat structures... this is usually a plus! BUT in this case that puts serious limits on your options to grow and be promoted, specially in PR and Comms team, unless you relocate overseas.

A lot of confusion on what "Global" and "U.S" functions are, as an American company both terms are usually confused, particularly when developing "Global" plans and activities that in any other company would be considered solely "U.S. focused". North America (aka Global) teams while well intentioned, lacks understanding of other markets dynamics and global trends.

Several managers and even directors in senior positions (mostly in HQ) got there after many years in the company but lack advanced management skills or even technical skills gained through previous work in other leading global cutting-edge companies... IMHO talent/skills/exp. in middle management can be improved.

I used to do a mental exercise back when I was at Blizzard: if we were at a meeting and at the table we had the "Global (Marketing, PR, Communications, Biz Dev) Manager" from Blizzard (or one of our franchises) and at the same table we had the same/equivalent roles from other leading tech/digital companies (Amazon, Disney, Netflix, AirBnB, LinkedIn, Universal, Facebook, Apple, etc.) ... would we (Blizzard) have the best or at least top 5 best qualified and brilliant professional in the table? Most of the times I answered myself: I highly doubt it (not even close).

    Advies aan management

Keep up the great work on your commitment to quality in your games and products!
Keep putting the players first like you have always done. As a PR professional that those two were the #1 selling points that media and press recognize Blizzard for!) so... keep it up!

Keep being such an inspiration to the industry and to us all!

Do not compare or measure yourself anymore against other companies "in the industry", you have outgrown and beat this industry (EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, etc).. your measuring stick should now be companies like the ones mentioned before, you are in the big leagues now! have been in there for a while now :) (enjoy it but don't lose sight of what comes next)

While I think it is GREAT to recognize loyalty and think of employees who have been there when senior positions open up... that may play against Blizzard's business strategy some times... look outside... look at other leading companies that are changing the way things are done and ask yourself: is my current roster of senior managers / leads/directors the best I can get? ...Go for brilliant professionals from other related industries: yahoo, amazon, Facebook, Disney, Netflix, etc.

    Pluspunten

The level of passion and skill that the majority of the people at Blizzard share make coming to work an pleasure. Every team I ever interfaced with it was apparent in most cases that we were on the same page even though we were on different teams. The collaborative spirit that is distilled from the top down around org goals that then get extended to division goals helps ensure that the right job gets done.

    Minpunten

At least in the past (depending on the division one was in) the fact that you worked for Blizzard in many cases was used as a point in compensation and it helped skew compensation packages on the low side. Dev teams were/are mostly immune to this but some of the more general purpose roles were not. This may have improved in the last 3-4 years in order to retain talent.

    Advies aan management

Keep doing all the little things that make people thrilled and honored to work there.

    Pluspunten

Never a dull moment - challenging and personally rewarding

    Minpunten

Understaffing creates work overload, which in turn becomes burnout

    Advies aan management

Hire more people, increase salaries to be competive within the Industry. Promote the worthy, not the kiss butt, do nothings!!

    Pluspunten

Blizzard gives its employees so many non-monetary benefits that make up for so much of what almost any other company lacks. Parties, gifts, training, company gym - the list goes on. They make you feel welcome and that you are a part of everything that's going on, no matter what department you work under. Getting your name into game credits is a reality for the whole company, not just the literal developers.

    Minpunten

Promotions are few and far between. It takes a long, long time to advance here - depending on the department, of course, but it seems that way in plenty of disciplines at Blizzard. People don't leave for a reason.

    Advies aan management

Promote people who do in fact deserve to be promoted. Tenure does not equate to earning a higher pay rate, but work ethic does.

Ik heb een voltijdbaan bij Blizzard Entertainment (Langer dan 5 jaar)

    Pluspunten

    * Work related to computers games. What could be better?
    * Surrounded by likeminded gamers even or manager level. You are even encouraged to play games.
    * Great Core Values,
    * Transparency in most processes,
    * Listen to their employee opinion. You can really make a difference.
    * Lots of investments in your development. Great place to learn and upskill yourself.

    Minpunten

    * Location. While office itself meets the standards of Blizzard, the quality of life in the town getting worst with each year. If you choose this office, be sure that you hate sunny weather otherwise you might become be very unhappy.
    * Cost of life/salary. While they do their best, prices rise in Ireland even faster, and at some point, you might just not have any money left, especially if you are a family person.
    * Lack of opportunities in the local office. To be clear - there are lots of opportunities if you are open for relocation to other offices, but otherwise, there are very few opportunities with very tough competition.

    Advies aan management

    * I would really suggest looking into if you would like to keep staying in Cork. It might cost a lot of extra to maintain competitive salaries in the local market.
    * Would suggest extending variation of different opportunities within in you Irish office to keep talented people in Blizzard.

    Free games

Promotions depend almost purely on your social network at the company
    Internal mobility is too limited

    Pluspunten

The best thing about Blizzard is the people—people are passionate, driven, smart and kind. While it's difficult to make such a blanket statement, for the most part it's been true. If you want a place where people are more than coworkers and you get to do what you're passionate about alongside people who are passionate about their areas too.

    Minpunten

It is definitely a place that's very dependent on who you know. While that's easy for some, for others it is not. It is not necessarily a con depending on how you see it, but opportunities are dependent on this—where is it not?

Merit is taken into consideration too but not without your network.

    Pluspunten

Best company culture in the world. Easy to connect with people. Geek ambient. You can be yourself and bleed your passion in your interactions with your customers.

    Minpunten

Extremely controlled in your shift. You sometimes need to ask even to go for the toilet just in case the customers won't be attended.
For non majoritary languages (not English or German) the shift, holidays and career advancements are pretty limited.
New employees have to compensate for the long-tenured low-performing colleagues.

    Advies aan management

Words don't reflect policies when you say that Customer Support is very valued in the company. It's not. Wages are not competitive and micromanagement is over the roof. Every single Customer Support employee who leaves and keeps working in the Customer Service industry confirms that they get better wages or better work/life balance.
Get rid of the toxic employees and start investing in those who give you real value. Treat your employees well, and this will reflect in how customers are valued.

    Pays well.
    Work in game industry

    Minpunten

Not enough head count for what they want done. Won't hire more people. I did the work of 4 engineers. I temporary left and they said I could come back. In 2 weeks they didn't want me back when I gave them 8 years of my life.

    Advies aan management

    Hire more engineers.
