Ik heb een voltijdbaan bij Bynder (Langer dan 3 jaar)

    Pluspunten

1 .Flexible office hours and great team of colleagues
    2. The system we setup for clients has lots of functionality, specifics and possibilities which make the job very diverse and challenging.
    3. The client's we work for are mostly marketeers, which are great fun, and are often very happy with the system.
    4. Company and management culture is very innovative and refreshing, they dare to do things different. (e.g. unlimited holidays, feedback and communication, etc.)

    Minpunten

    1. For more senior employees (e.g. >5 yrs working experience) there's limited inspiration from internal role models

    Advies aan management

Stay focused and don't launch too many pilot initiatives that don't make it past the announcement. They come across as "launched & forgotten" instead of "launch & grow".

Ik werk bij Bynder (Korter dan een jaar)

    Pluspunten

I really enjoy working at Bynder because of the trust that is given to me and the autonomy to create and implement new processes. After proving myself during the first couple of months here at Bynder, I've been given the freedom to work on projects that have a large impact on the employee base. Of course, I am supervised and the ideas are discussed and debated, but I never feel like I am not allowed to voice my opinion. My colleagues are incredibly passionate and really care about the quality of work they deliver.

    Minpunten

Because we are growing so quickly, things change quite rapidly. This means that the structure also is in a transition phase, but I'm willing to deal with the ambiguity if it means that we can have a stronger foundation moving forward.

    Advies aan management

Don't forgot to constantly communicate new changes, over-communicate if necessary.

    Pluspunten

Bynder has grown exponentially on a year by year basis over the last 5 years. This growth brings a lot of opportunities to the company: both on a strategic level for the company as a whole as well as for all the people working at Bynder or want to start working for Bynder. Despite of the fast growth pace the company culture is still based on trust and of granting each employee its own responsibility and freedom.

    Minpunten

Due to the fast growth of the last 5 years the company is now coming into a transition phase. As with all change: it always comes with some discomfort in the beginning.

    Advies aan management

I would advise the management to keep communicating about the steps going forward and to run the transition phase as smoothly as possible with a clear strategy for the future and clear directions for its employees

Ik heb een voltijdbaan gehad bij Bynder (Langer dan 3 jaar)

    Pluspunten

    - A lot of freedom, which can allow you to operate autonomously or pick up new projects, or to do nothing without any repercussions.

    - A few great people, generally not in management, who truly carry the company.

    - Unlimited holidays.

    - Free lunch & beers.

    - Great office location.

    - A great product and dedicated product team.

    Minpunten

    - Very stagnant career growth outlook; you might be able to make a step to the side, but there is no such thing as climbing the ladder.

    - Salaries are a joke, not in line with the market.

    - Bynder does not evaluate its employees based on performance, at least not to the extent to which it can actually cause you to get a raise that is more than the 1% that everybody gets.

    - High performer, or low performer, it does not matter.

    - Nepotism is unfortunately a big thing, if you are friends with the right people, they keep you sheltered, give you raises and will invent positions to keep you on board.

Management is inexperienced and has failed to bring much needed experience (stability) into the company through external hires. This has led to:

    - Global unclarity on mission, vision, strategy and means of execution.
    - Putting people in more managerial positions, despite not being the best fit.
    - Most importantly, every change, every initiative is NOT taken seriously by the employees who have been with the company for longer than a year. There is no credibility, nor accountability from management side.

    Advies aan management

    - Look into the mirror and be real and rational.

    - Make the tough decision to cut people loose, because deep down they contribute nothing to the company and will continue to be a burden.

    - Hire vetted experience into the company, and allow them to reign, but most importantly, candidly ask for feedback from the people they manage.

    - Reward performance, and be strict; it is not high school where everybody wants to be friends and play.

    - Do not play the "we are a startup" card; a VC backed scale-up that has 300+ employees should show respect to itself and its employees. If you have aspirations to be the segment leader, act like it. Being the cool kid will not get you there.

Nice offices, many young and smart people working there, freedom to adjust your work schedule as it suits you, unlimited vacation policy.

    Minpunten

Inexperienced management, politics (big time), no internal communication, lack of focus on how to manage employees and the business in general.

    Advies aan management

Admit your defeat, step away and get someone with experience to manage the place, if you want to be successful.

People, beer, lack of supervision, unlimited holidays

    Minpunten

Lack of supervision, pervasive substance abuse issues, bullies, toxic people, low performers

    Advies aan management

The problems of Bynder start at the top, the CEO protects bullies, toxic people and low performers. The CEO gets rid of people who oppose him. The CEO only hires friends.

I hope the investors catch up sooner rather than later. It is surprising it takes so long. I suspect turnover is close to 30 percent now. The root cause needs to be adressed. The ship is sinking and it is time to sweep the staircase starting at the top

Ik heb een voltijdbaan gehad bij Bynder (Langer dan een jaar)

    Pluspunten

    - Lots of freedom, so you can try new things, manage your own projects ... or come in drunk and leave early

    - Hiring policy has been focussed on likability for a few years, which means you'll make great friends there and enjoy some of the fun of Amsterdam together.

    - Office is nice and in a great location, catered lunches are pretty sweet.

    - Great work-life balance! After a while, we joked about working there as being a break from our normal careers.

    - If you can get yourself a raise (they always low-ball new hires), the salary/benefits are pretty decent for Dutch standards.

    Minpunten

    - Management has almost no experience and is guided by emotion rather than any business tact, plan, or data. They seem to make every disagreement personal, which often blocks progress and conflict resolution.

    - They favour those in their inner circle with lofty job titles and high salaries, and immunity from discipline or sanction, while imposing bizarre principles (that seem to have come from a 1990's management textbook) across the rest of the company, regardless of a person's experience, performance, or specific case.

    - They will take everything they can get out of you, without being willing to reward you for your work. (You need to beg for raises, and they'll treat you like a sponge for it no matter how hard you work.)

    - The only way to get any reward or recognition for your contribution is to: (1) make yourself indispensable, despite getting no guidance or resources in doing so, and then (2) get a competing job offer.

    - Management team seems to have suffered from a lot of substance abuse issues in the past year. It sounds like they're cleaning up now, but it was embarrassing to watch and painful to navigate, and lead to a lot of solid people losing hope and passion.

    - I worked in the Amsterdam office, but I hear the Boston office has it's own host of problems (particularly bullying).

    Advies aan management

Sober up, get rid of the bad seeds, reward the talent you have, own your faults and learn from them. Also, try promoting someone who isn't Dutch for a change!

    Pluspunten

    - the summit (happened once)
    - some great peers who became friends
    - international company
    - freedom (it's also negative)
    - cool office location
    - can't start and stop when you want
    - being able to receive a salary without doing work (Across the company. Nobody cares)
    - our fearless marketing leader

    Minpunten

    - low performers and top performers are equal so why should I work hard
    - toxic environment (If the bully is a management friend, nothing happens and a lot of people are being impacted)
    - get rit of low performers who impact the culture and the people who bully or those who just take a pay
    - HR -> start thinking about the people you should serve and not about your personal resume
    - HR -> I have reported inappropriate activity but I've been waived away and not taken seriously
    - unprofessional culture set by management (often c-level execs are drunk during business hours!!!)
    - many many many people are now leaving Bynder. (15+ in March in Amsterdam)
    - company doesn't have a vision or mission
    - "strategy" changes every quarter
    - main product is going end of life and will be replaced by a roadmap product that sales needs to sell that isn't available and won't be available
    - people are working in silo's. Teamwork doesn't exist
    - friends of the executive team will be promoted
    - promoted friends of the executive team who don't perform will be put into newly created roles that don't have any impact
    - no hierarchy in the company - if you don't like something your manager said then go to the CEO who will help you. This makes management useless but makes our lives easier
    - we want to copy cool companies and be a flat company, but reporting structure as well as responsibilities are not clear and people don't take ownership
    - people are being asked to join (pilot) programs which sounds compelling but it's a waste of time. Decision made by the team are always being revoked which means you've spent a lot of costly personal time which has gone to waste

    Advies aan management

    - hire some experienced managers and don't promote friends who are not capable
    - stop with the beer o'clock countdown counters and moments
    - listen to people. If you don't want to listen to us, stop asking for our feedback. The results from the anonymous happiness survey was pretty clear. No actions taken so far and it was conducted 9 months ago
    - are you here for your personal internal reputation to the outside world or do you want to become a world class company

The investors should do a random drug or alcohol test during business hours and be surprised

    Pluspunten

I really like my job at Bynder. It's a great place to work at. Because of the flat hierarchy and the driven culture Bynder is the perfect company to evolve your personal competences and to bring your career to another level. Working at Bynder is a joy because everybody goes for the best and the working environment is great.

    Minpunten

Because the company grows so quickly, Bynder is constantly subject to change. Because change starts with people, you have to be open to change when you work at Bynder.

    Advies aan management

Because Bynder is subject to change a lot, the management needs to be the heart of the organisation that gives some stability. This stability could improve a bit in my opinion.

    Minpunten

    - favoritism
    - lower than market-rate salary
    - almost only inexperienced people
    - big egos
    - hierarchical structure
    - politics

    Advies aan management

When I joined Bynder I was over the moon excited. I felt inspired and motivated. A year later I am looking around because I am disappointed. This is not what I signed up for.

On the outside, Bynder seems like one of the coolest companies to be working for. Unlimited holidays, remote week, free massages, people on sneakers.

On the inside it is actually more political and hierarchical than most corporate companies. At the end of the day, I want to be able to look myself in the mirror and be proud to be working somewhere. I am no longer able to do that at Bynder.

At Bynder, if you are friends with the right people
    - You get a higher than market-rate salary. The kind of salary making you never want to leave
    - You will never get fired. You get a fancy new title, less responsibilities but you can keep the same salary
    - You can bully other people freely because you are protected
    - Your performance does not matter. Because hey, you're cool and we like cool people

Bynder has a lot of potential and can be one of the coolest companies to work for. Bynder should act like they pretends to be.
    - Listen more to your employees, instead of just listening to Hippo's (Highest-Paid Person's Opinion)
    - Stop organizing something like remote week, when people are not allowed to work from home structurally. It's two-faced
    - Stop presenting your company as flat while it's actually extremely hierarchical. People at the top make decisions that happen the next day without consulting anyone.
    - Stop bringing in friends who are not competent. Just because you like them or they worked at one of your previous companies, does not mean they will add value to the company. Have the guts to let them go, they might even be thankful.
    - Pay a decent salary not just to people who are in management or friends with the right people
    - Hire one experienced person instead of two people who have to learn from other people who do not know what they are doing yet either

A lot of people are leaving, and more will continue to leave, as long as Bynder does not act according to their own values and become more professional.
