Ik heb een voltijdbaan gehad bij Conversant (Langer dan een jaar)

    Pluspunten

The people. Conversant does a great job of hiring competent people who, for the most part, are enjoyable to work with. All of the teams that I worked with were fantastic and the general sense that I got was most everyone enjoyed working with one another.
The work/life balance is also great at Conversant, but at certain times of the year you can feel bored which is always something to consider. Conversant also takes care of the employees with what I consider to be a very fair benefits package that includes unlimited PTO! In addition to benefits they also have a summer and winter company party which are always high points in the year.

    Minpunten

Conversant gives promotions and raises during what they call "cycles". The problem with this is it tends to breed a culture of incompetence where if you stay long enough you'll get promoted. This is not true in every case, but there are instances of it.
The promotion cycles also leads to Conversant losing their best talent because when someone gets passed over for a promotion they know exactly how long they have to wait to be eligible again.

    Advies aan management

Get rid of the promotion periods. You will continue to lose talent as long as your giving promotions and raises in cycles.

    Pluspunten

Decent benefits, flexible schedule, good work/life balance, beautiful brand new office in CO

    Minpunten

Low pay, no compensation/ overtime for working on weekends and holidays, takes a long time to get promoted, unequal pay between male vs female, poor senior leadership (SVP and above).

    Advies aan management

LISTEN to your managers and employees. There's a huge disconnect between managers and and senior leadership - everything from pay and promotions to team orientation (specifically for those teams NOT located in Chicago).

Ik heb gewerkt bij Conversant (Langer dan 3 jaar)

    Pluspunten

Excellent hires at the associate level. You’ll work with some cool people. They won’t stay long and neither should you.

Decent local coffee in cafeterias (but no cups because they’re cheap. This doesn’t have anything to do with the environment because senior leaders openly talk about not believing in climate change. Lol. Yeah.)

    Minpunten

Company is downsizing because they have been unable to distinguish themselves from competition. The old Epsilon data story that Conversant spins doesn’t work anymore. All of the senior leaders are used car salesmen who have no understanding of technology at all. They seem to think that they have a “10 year head start on matching” and are therefore untouchable. Anyone who understands how a identity network works knows that this is plainly untrue. It took conversant 10 years because they have a comparatively small network. My prediction is that companies like Accenture and Facebook will continue to eat conversants lunch.

The business is shrinking. I was there for several years and watched the client roster get smaller every year. Clients who stayed with conversant (with three exceptions) were shrinking or stagnating budgets. Business wise- it’s not healthy.

Culturally, VP and up tend to be sexist, misogynistic and standard “old boys club.” Its hard for me to complain because I guess I was complicit but they way certain leaders in the CRM sales business would roll their eyes when female leaders were presenting made me sick. Conversant will pay women 70 cents on the dollar. Conversant will tell a woman who’s negotiating a salary that she’s being “too high maintenance.”

This place is toxic culturally. The business is also in the toilet. Word on the street is that they’re about to be dismantled and sold for parts because ADS doesn’t want them anymore. Good luck.

    Advies aan management

    1. Retire - you refused to value technology and instead rely on old school agency used car sales tactics. Modern marketers don’t care.

    2. Remember that every time you make a sexist or homophobic comment, it hurts someone who’s a human like you or your kids.

    3. Get rid of senior directors who literally sleep at their desks and have lost the cognitive ability to write a coherent email. They’re clogging your proverbial (and perhaps literal) toilet.

    4. VPs- stop bragging about how you don’t believe in climate change... you’re embarrassing yourself and the company. Seriously. Cut it out.

    Pluspunten

Very positive working environment and culture. Makes you do your best and work towards their slogan of "1% better every day".

    Minpunten

Personnel hire/fire/exits are not communicated like they used to be from 2012 through 2016. Now one has to resort to the "grape-vine" sources.

    Advies aan management

While there is formal top-down communication, encourage cross-team communication culture - to prevent teams from gravitating towards working in their own silos.

    Pluspunten

Stable, public company that a lot of people hide in for how easy and little the work is.

    Minpunten

Too heavy at every executive and VP level. No information passed down from upper management. Silos everywhere causing duplicate work to be wasted. No internal promotions or opportunities to transfer teams. No training or onboarding. Manager doesn’t even do performance reviews or one-on-ones. You just get emailed a 5 word summary of how you did lol. Technology is out of date and over reliance on tech written by engineers now in management even if it’s crappy code.

    Advies aan management

    Split the company up!

    Pluspunten

    Pros

This is a great place for your first Job in Chicago area. The people are nice and smart.
Work life balance is very good, free breakfast every Friday.

    Minpunten

The personal growth will be slow. An inconsistent direct manager will make you uncomfortable and less productive. Very often, you work on your manager's task that was actually assigned to her without any credit.

    Advies aan management

As a manager, please be consistent on your team member's task and your own task, care about team member's individual growth.

Fun, intelligent, great people surrounding you everyday!
It has the buzz and energy of a startup with the resources of a very well established organization.

    Minpunten

There are definitely some corporate policies in place that can make life difficult.

    Great work environment

    Smart people

    Challenging work

    Great solution

    Minpunten

    Poor people management

Lack of emotional intelligence from management

    Advies aan management

Even in sales, managers need to be able to manage people and there are just too many mid-level managers who have no idea how to manage people.

    Pluspunten

Rock solid team dynamic without the onerous "2nd family" cultural immersion; supportive colleagues & management; running very strong on new product starts; excellent project managers .

    Minpunten

Marketing delivery is not very inspiring work. The place is slowly devolving into a preschool of apprentices and new grads.

    Advies aan management

Assert your independence from Epsilon. They will poison you slowly if you let them.
