Recruiter contacted me to schedule a meeting to chat about the role and the fit. She then rescheduled the meeting as she had an appointment, we decided to meet the other day and she rescheduled it again 5 minutes prior to the meeting because of bad reception. Finally decided to meet for the third and I was ghosted. I had to adjust my work schedule only to be ghosted. It definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

Here is the process - Recruiter call - hiring mgr call to introduce the company & role, understand my basic background - Prep call with another team mate, still, casual catch up to know each other - 1st interview about sourcing skills - 2nd interview about stakeholder management/data & insights - last wrap up call with hiring mgr again I must say, I was impressed by Miro recruiting team. They are all such supportive, full of empathy, caring people. When I talk about my concerns, they are all related and share their experience with me. And after watching the YouTube video about Miro, they are a collaborative team working on collaborative tool to help more people to co-work with each other. Nice experience, appreciate it!

Helaas was ik niet verder dan de tweede ronde gekomen. Er hadden toen twee gesprekken plaatsgevonden met twee verschillende personen in het bedrijf. Toen ik een email had ontvangen met her bericht heb ik gevraagd om wat feedback te geven. Echter, hebben zij hierna nooit meer gereageerd. Aangezien ik er veel tijd en moeite aan had besteed vond ik het erg amateuristisch, daar ik uitdrukkelijk om feedback vroeg. Dus ondanks dat ik tot dat moment leuke gesprekken had gehad, heb ik toch een zure nasmaak van de sollicitatie.

1. Was headhunted by a Miro recruiter on LinkedIn 2. Had a 30-minute intro conversation with the recruiter, things seemed like a match. 3. Had to create a 10-minute recorded video presentation about my work which would be shared with the team in advance 4. Next would have been interviews with team members/hiring manager -- but they didn't even watch the video and said they'd already hired someone else. Waste of time.

I was approached by Miro for the role of Sr. Tech Recruiter by one of their recruiters. They use Calendly to schedule an acquaintance call (I think through Greenhouse) which is a good modern approach. The interview itself however, wasn't a very good experience. For starters, the recruiter was talking a lot, it is good practice to ask more in depth questions and let the applicant explain themself more. When I asked the recruiter questions about what she likes about working at Miro and what challenges they are facing from a TA and organizational perspective to achieve their goals (and what these goals are to her perspective), she didn't get any further than "hyper growth". Upon asking why the company is looking to double in size in 1 year time and what the rationale is to do so (hint: just adding bodies doesn't equal growth), it was mainly that there are more and more customers, from a Tech hiring perspective, this doesn't necessarily make immediate sense. Truth be told, she seemed to be working at Miro for only 2 months or so but even basic things, she didn't know. Another thing that surprised me a bit, Miro's vision from what I could see on their website, has all to do with enabling distributed teams. I live ~ 1 hour and 15 minutes single travel away from Amsterdam, where they have an office (which the recruiter didn't know about where in Amsterdam it was) so I asked how flexible they are to working from home part of the time (like 2 days from home or such). Pretty much no, everybody needs to be bums in the seat to achieve "hyper growth". I did tell her that I was flexible in regards to the amount of WFH days. Apart from her talking a lot and saying "I will put this in my notes" about 15 times when I gave answers to her standard questions, now comes the part that I think they should definitely improve on if they want to achieve "hyper growth". The recruiter told me she would check some things for me (such as working from home a couple of days a week, salary etc.) and that she would give me feedback on that. To my surprise, 4 days later, I got a standard rejection email in the category "thank you for your time, we had a competitive candidate pool, we're not moving forward" I do get when you send out a standard rejection email when rejecting applicants before you spoke to them personally. I get that with a lot of applicants, it is better to at least let people know where they are instead of not knowing what happened to the application. However, if you hunt someone, talk to them, the least you can do is 1 or 2 lines of reason why you're not moving forward. If Miro would like to achieve "hyper growth", I strongly advice them to up their game in this field. It is quite unprofessional. In all fairness, it might have been my salary, my question about WFH or anything else, at least, tell me. I hope for them that they are going to brush up their practices because if they don't especially in Tech, people will start to talk to each other and this could jeopardize their "hyper growth".
