Great company to work for, potential growth, great benefits and good pay! At least that's what I was told during the interview. I applied for this position and passed both the first and second interview process. I also passed the background and reference process. Generally, after a week or two you receive a letter or call from your potential employer letting you know your start date, etc. I waited a month to hear back from their in-house recruiter regarding my start date, but never received a call or email. I had to chase down the process; to only find out from their in-house recruiter they (Societe Cenerale) decided to make the full-time position I applied for a contract position. It get's better, the following day the same full-time position was posted on-line again as a FULL-TIME position. Lucky for me I didn't give my two weeks notice to my current employer, before assuming my position with Newedge. Possibly a good company, but lack of professionalism. New Hire(s) beware!

Interviewed with head of CS in London and one of the team managers. The interview was conducted late, with no acknowledgement or apology for the 30 minute delay. The structure of the interview process was very much to test knowledge on the business, with such questions as 'tell me how a trade clears' and 'explain what the Client Service team does' rather than competency or skills based questions. The interviewers didn't seem to have much interest in my CV or my previous experience and I wondered why I was there, It was difficult to build a rapport with the interviewers and I got the impression I was wasting their time as well as my own. All in all, it was quite a bizarre experience. A point to note if applying via an agency, Newedge apply an agency retention programme, where if an agency represents you at the firm, even if they can't secure an interview, they own you as a candidate for up to 6 months. If a second agency inadvertently forwards your CV and secures an interview and a job, the original agency will be paid out.

- The interview questions were mostly behavioral, they really wanted to know what type of person I was. Am I able to admit when I've mad a mistake? Things like that.

The hiring manager mainly asked me about my experience with Excel, and was pretty friendly. Told me the job was challening, but they needed somebody full time for not just the summer but through December. Couldnt take it.

Consists of three rounds. The first round is Technical, the second round is more of abstract questions and third round with the Director Level who belongs to Tokyo. First Round ---------------- F2F in Singapore at NewEdge office. Questions are from below areas: 1. Oracle partitioning 2. What is Global Temp tables 4. The new futures in oracle 11i version 5. Materialized views 6. Types of trigger 7. What is mutating table 8. Commit inside trigger(autonomous transaction) 9. What is Snapshot too old error 10. What is external tables 11. Star schema and Snowflake schema 12. Index organized tables 13. Oracle Indexes(Bitmap, Btree and one more asked, didn't remember) and other medium level Oracle tech questions. Second Round --------------------- This round is the video conference with two guys from Hang Kong. One is the manager and another one is his subordinate. The VC is done at their Singapore office. The questions are more of abstract and to know your skills and abilities and personality. Few questions: 1. Your solution is rejected by your team, what will you do? 2. How you manage the tough business user? 3. What is your strength and weakness? 4. Why you want to leave your current organisation 5. What is the size of your database? [They expect your answer in Tera Bytes since their db size is big] 6. What is the data volume you worked?[You should tell 50+ million or billion rows in each table, as they expect guys who worked in that bigger database] Third Round ------------------ I do not understand this level. Actually this round conducted with the Director level who is from Tokyo along with his buddy who is also a bigger position. As I did completed two tech rounds already, I expected this level should be checking the Individual's skills and abilities but surprisingly, both of these directors asked all tech questions. Be prepared with below: 1. How you provide read. write , update privileges to the user? --> using Grant and Revoke commands 2. How do you conduct auditing of your database objects-->Study well the DBMS_AUDIT_TRIAL 3. Did you got access to all the data directly? --> They expect you should be currently working in an environment where the data access restrictions in place, such as you should request for read access of certain data with DBAs. 4. What is the temp table in Oracle and difference between Oracle and other database temp tables(ex: Sybase) 5. Vi Editor commands 6. How to find differences between two files --> diff command 7. how to find particular pattern in directory --> ls -ltr *abc201308* 8. How to find number of files in directory? ls -ltr| wc -l (check the command once) 9. How you search particular word in a file in vi editor

the position is in Montreal canada. 2 round phone interviews with some guy from Paris(indian?), another from new york(french). Both has strong accents, but somehow can manage through, not many tough questions, just some general one. why this company, past experience, etc. Surprisely not any technical questions. then face-to-face HR interview. first a technical test, not very difficult. very simple things. But I definitely underestimated HR power, didn't do very well. and failed to get the offer.
- your bad bosses? perhaps mostly by the recruiting process. unlike others, who first filter by HR interviews/calles, then hiring managers. This company is on reverse. So the face-to-face HR interview is completed different from what I prepared. I had a lot technical/project preparation and questions, very few if none for HR's.

Poor. Lengthy and disorganised (over four months). Interviewed by four separate people, did not tak to each other nor communicate what they thought they needed from the new incumbent exept to "bring improvements". Most problematically, they were not forthcoming about the significant limitations of the internal environment. Honesty would have been appreciated.
