Met EP, took a test which was a basic broadcast journalism writing test, knowledge of local news and basic knowledge of how a rundown works. Talked about experience, career goals and met the team

The entire hiring process involved only two in person interviews with direct superior, position to replace worker out on sick leave. Later I found out that there was extensive background checking with agents and producers.

Overall it was a pretty seamless and organized process with zero painpoints or frustrations. Met with all the team members I'd be working with and had productive, natural conversations about vision, goals, and technical application.

The actual interview was fairly simple. Basic questions about experience, goals, and expectations for the position. There was a writing test following the next stage of the interview process that was a bit more intense and overall led me to not getting the position.

Setup interview by email and interviewed in a week. Spoke to two people in a room for about 10 minutes and basically just asked me why I was looking to come work at Tribune. Job was posted as full-time and they also told me in the interview it was full-time, however, when I got home, I got an email asking if I would be willing to work part-time up to 38 hours per week. Basically, they wanted to work me full-time but not pay me as a full-time employee with benefits. Interviewer told me there was lady there still part-time after 9 months. I told her in my email that I would be willing to work part-time until I'm caught up to speed, then I will need full-time status. I never heard back. This is just another company that wants to work their workers to death and not pay them. Go figure.

Phone call to schedule, then met with hiring manager then was selected for 2nd interview with department manager. Not a lot of questions. Easy atmosphere. Backgrounds check and that's it the show up own designated start day.

After my application, I was immediately contacted by the hiring manager. Established a really great rapport right out of the gate, and looked forward to next steps. Unfortunately, the job posting did not mention a "local candidates only" disclaimer, or a mention that flying in for an interview would have to be an out of pocket expense. Bit of a miss there. An additional callout is that the duties for the position were quite experienced, but had a generic understated title attached to the role. Typical corporate HR labeling. Flew out, and had a great onsite with the hiring manager and the team. Two weeks after that I was contacted and informed that the job responsibilities had changed, and had been filled with a more junior candidate. Very disappointing. Time is money on both sides of the hiring process, and it's frustrating to have such a drawn out experience regardless of the business reasons involved. While absolutely excited about the location, facilities, and role - I would be cautious pursuing a future opportunity.

The interview had multiple steps. They take you through a current events test that goes over many topics from your state's geography, current events, and industry terms etc. Then they take you through a writing process where you break down PKGs into VO SOTS etc. The whole interview process took about 4 hours if I'm remembering correctly.
