- Being fully remote really prevents team building (to be fair, we used to have annual meet-ups, but given how much the team has grown during the pandemic we're now in a situation where most of us have never met in person) - Generally people are good about considering your local time, but occasionally you'll need to work weird hours because you're working with someone in a different timezone. This happens more often the further you are from GMT. - It's a large enough company that no one person understands the full ecosystem, in fact, even within that ecosystem there are applications that no one person fully understands. - Backwards compatibility is almost always very strict because it can take weeks to get all of the consumers of a service to sign off on compatibility breaking change. - Legacy code is poorly documented and all of the original developers have been gone for years. The current SMEs are typically 2 or 3 degrees of separation removed from the original architects of a system. - They've been slowly phasing out Linux as a viable development platform - It's not always clear whose responsibility a project is, which can lead to either orphaned projects or different teams stepping on each other's toes.
