If I have someone to thank for my English it would be my father. Ever since I could talk and semi read in Spanish he enforced me to start learning English. From my reading books, tv channels and even disney movies or leisure family movie time would be in English. For a while I was unhappy however my father always said "when you grow up you will thank me". . . and I inevitably did. Speaking and writing fluently English has opened me many doors and if I have anyone to thank this for it would be him.
