    Pluspunten

    The people, for the most part are collaborative, smart, creative.
    The studio is awesome.
    The benefits are great.

    Minpunten

    Transparency seems to be an issue.
    Meeting or private space (open floor plan) can sometimes be an issue.

    Pluspunten

    - Fun perks, game deals
    - 'Community' events for coworkers
    - Being able to work on top quality titles

    Minpunten

    - It's now become just another EA studio clone. The dollar is the ultimate bottom line now, as opposed to the quality (of both the product and the workplace) which used to be the priority.
    - Long hours of expected crunch with poor food options during finaling stages is still a problem here
    - Excess bloat of middle-management 'producer' positions which are full of people with little to no experience in the departments they are working with causes ignorant scheduling and inappropriate tasking
    - Contradiction in cross-department training/moving. The company likes to say that they support people wanting to transfer to another department and will help someone get time to be trained/mentored into the role they are interested in, but from what I witnessed it's extremely rare that this happens. Once you know how to do something, you will be doing that one thing for years to come.
    - No upper management left that is still fighting for unique BioWare culture and perks (which is why it's entirely gone)
    - Workspaces are now very large open rooms that are loud and distracting - not even cubicle dividers were used in a room full of ~50 employees. For more introverted people that require quiet spaces to focus and concentrate, this can create anxiety and stress because there's no other option. People will literally be hollering from once side of the room to the other on some days.
    - Blatant contradiction in policy regarding remote work - there are various employees working from remote locations yet when management is asked about opportunities for remote work, the answer is 'we have a company policy that states we do not allow staff to work from remote locations', which is repeated when the existing cases are pointed out.

    Advies aan management

    - Remove a large portion of the middle management 'producer' roles that are currently filled with unqualified people, hire some project management people that have experience in the areas they are managing. Probably the biggest thing right now.
    - Create a work environment that is supportive of not only extroverted people, but introverted people that need quiet space to concentrate/focus.
    - Create something like a 'training day' program that will allow people the opportunity to learn more directly about another role they are interested in, and support any potential move.
    - Open up the doors for remote work. Most if not all meetings are done through video chat anyway as they usually need to span various studio locations. Invest in creating a plan that would allow people to work from the location that suits them best while still being as easily contactable during core work hours.
    - Get back to supporting local talent more than trying to rip people away from competing studios

    - Poor decision making processes and a tendency to revisit every decision

    -Many talented individuals with a knack for delivering top quality work
    -Opportunities to work on interesting and ground-breaking technology
    -Ability to step outside comfort zone and explore new territory makes for interesting and changing work

    Minpunten

    -Not always necessary buy-in or support from middle management. Certain initiatives or projects aren't setup for success due to lack of people power and resources, however requirements and priorities are not adjusted to reflex this.
    -Commitments and goals pushed down by middle management do not always align with the needs of the project. Occasionally they are driven by internal agendas or box checking.
    -Gambling future on success of Anthem
    -Limited career growth opportunities due to steep management hierarchy

    -Ensure work being done is measurably tied to success of projects and the studio
    -Ensure initiatives have the necessary people power and resources to be successful
    -Hopefully Anthem can be the success it needs to be

    Pluspunten

    * Passionate, smart developers who truly care about the products they're making. This sounds trite, but it's true.
    * EA really isn't as bad as many people think.
    * The studio is attempting to be really innovative with its current and next planned projects. This is a always a double-edged sword. Let's hope it works out for our fans' sake.
    * Salaries and benefits are decent. Some specializations could certainly make more money by moving outside the games industry, but overall you probably won't feel like you're being cheated.

    Minpunten

    * Front-line management is often unfairly expected to do the jobs of two people. They must simultaneously act as advanced individual contributors and as people managers. This leads to frequent burnout by the company's brightest.
    * Double standards. Upper management does not practice what they preach. Cronyism. This is clearly evident during promotion and bonus time.
    * Several teams have recently been centralized, and are now managed out of EA's HQ in Redwood Shores. This experiment has been a disaster. Remote management of employees can work, but EA is going about it completely wrong, and is causing serious damage to the studios they should instead be supporting.
    * Good news is shared. Bad news is hidden. It does not take a genius to figure out what the real state of things is at any given time.
    * Hand fulls of employees are frequently still in the office working at 3am. This is worn as a badge of honor, and absolutely should not be.
    * There is still too much Us vs. Them between BioWare's Edmonton and Austin studios. This has been going on for years.
    * To put it bluntly, open office plans suck. The official story is that it is done to foster collaboration. The obvious truth is that it is a cheaper setup, and allows companies to cram more employees into the available space. BioWare's open office plan is easily among the worst in which I've ever worked.

    It will not be simple, but the cons mentioned above really do need to be addressed by the people with the authority to do so. Team health and studio morale is dangerously low these days.

    A lot of dead weight in middle-management. Producers punch down trying to be the next executive running the game.
    Online backlash/drama is constant.

    Management needs to do a better job of making face with actual content creators and programmers. Everything is filtered through ineffective middle managers.

    Was previously a great company but the culture changed.

    This culture change wasn't for the better either. It reshaped the company and a lot of infighting happened because of this.

    Pluspunten

    - People are in general kind, friendly, and helpful. Many of these people are the best in the world in their individual roles and they care enormously about the games and their team.
    - Upcoming projects are exciting and look great.
    - Company is family-oriented and leads constantly stress that you should keep healthy work-life boundaries (a nice change from past years).
    - Studio is moving soon to a new, very nice office space.
    - Perks are great and pay is pretty good.
    - Looks great on paper.
    - Edmonton isn't as bad as people assume.
    - Lots of people REALLY love the games.

    Minpunten

    - Siloing has always been a huge issue at BioWare.
    - Some leads are really insecure which can manifest itself as either avoidance behaviour or abusive behaviour.
    - A small but passionate section of BioWare fans have historically and will probably always be mean to our company and our games.
    - EA is a double-edged sword.

    Advies aan management

    -Please give people an opportunity to grow beyond "just" senior without forcing them to be people managers. Top talent should be rewarded but there's nothing worse than a manger who is there for the wrong reasons.
    - We could be doing more to attract great people. I don't blame the city. I blame our processes. We should modernize our recruitment processes and then become pickier on who we hire.
    - Encourage employees to build bridges between teams so reduce siloing.
