    Pluspunten

Lovely opportunity to work with kids in a wonderful country.

    Minpunten

Management can be very nitpicky and are more concerned with maintaining the illusion of well-being with their clients (schools) than you. You are very easily replaceable and not

    Neutraal vooruitzicht

    Pluspunten

Really laidback, don't have to worry if you're doing things correctly, get to live in Japan comfortably.

    Minpunten

Can get monotonous at times, lack of motivation.

    Advies aan management

Provide more opportunity for teachers to network.

    Pluspunten

A supportive, professional, kind, and comfortable place to work with other staff

    Minpunten

The relocation is the only negative information I can tell, otherwise, the company is excellent

    Advies aan management

Must interview or hire someone that is nearby the candidate's location, unless relocation is available.

    Teaching kids is rewarding.
You'll get to meet cool teachers.
The staff (generally) are nice. <- probably will depend on which branch

    Minpunten

For the three years I've been working for them, my taxes have noticeably increased while my salary is still the same.

    Advies aan management

Pay your employees more and you'll get happy teachers who are more willing to give their best.

    Pluspunten

They're supportive and they create all your lesson plans so your job is pretty easy. They consider your location preference. They cover transportation costs and other incentives. They sometimes offer driving positions and provide a vehicle. They provide loan options in case of financial struggles. There is a community online to offer support.

    Minpunten

Salary is good but I believe it could be better

    Advies aan management

I think you do a good job ensuring that your teachers get the job done but I felt alone sometimes with more personal issues. For example, many persons do not understand Japanese tax system especially when it comes to having dependents and being that most persons you hire don't speak Japanese, it would be great to have a more clear knowledge of this than for you as an employer to just say do this and that and we don't really understand why we're doing it.

    Pluspunten

None. Being an ALT and being in Japan is rewarding - do it elsewhere, find another company. Interac and JET are not your only options.

    Minpunten

The salary is not good, you’ll be swindled in the interview to believe it is, it isn’t. There’s no justification for why it is so low when you can get better deals at practically every other teaching option. The “office staff” who have very limited skills, are financially incentivised to have a low wage budget, so they will take every opportunity to take pay days off you (sometimes illegally, because they take advantage of the fact you won’t know Japanese labor laws) or force you to use the very few holiday days you are given. FYI these are also your sick days, if you’re sick and don’t use one of your 5 holiday days you won’t get paid.

They don’t care about you, unless it impacts them getting their substantial hourly rate for your services, they couldn’t care less what problems you have, your safety. Even if a natural disaster happens they would happily risk sending you out in it over losing money.

There will never be advancements, you will never build up credibility with the company because in their mind you are 100% expendable. They just throw young kids at their problems, they win contracts by employing more teachers than they know how to handle and if you don’t like it, they don’t care if you leave they’ll just replace you with one of the other unaware candidates waiting in their home country.

There are no benefits, other companies provide allowances for housing, phone use, pay you full salary EVERY month, offer additional work for extra money, and even pay your tab at office parties (which with Interac your salary will probably not cover). Interac offer none of these benefits, you will not get raises, you will not get above 240,000 in the 8 normal salary months.

If you want to explore Japan, get amongst the culture and not stress about making ends meet or sacrificing your health to afford rent - find. another. company. There are plenty here miles better than Interac. Interac will lie in the interviews to get you to choose them. They are a slowly sinking ship taking in as many teachers as they can to plug their holes.

DONT DO IT. Find ANY other company. Research the hell out of your rights and labor laws and budget before you come here. Do not go with Interac. The “good reviews” here are made by the staff in the offices, I’ve caught them doing it.

Fire 75% of your current administrative staff, hire people who are competent to and disperse the wages you have saved to your teachers. Your model doesn’t work if you create such unbearable living situations for the majority of your employees. You’re an outdated, glorified sales company, you should function as a consultancy firm.

    Pluspunten

If you're looking to get your foot in Japan, this company will have you covered and will help you with the whole immigration process.
Generally speaking, the staff are helpful when you need assistance and they will help arrange housing for you.
After you have been in the company for a while, you will have some choice of which area you would like to work in provided there is an empty slot for you to fill as a teacher.

    Minpunten

Many many downsides unfortunately.. I thought my branch was good to begin with but quickly learned that they are incompetent and only useful went they want something done for them.. the staff will fill your head with lies about daily life and what is acceptable/unacceptable the moment you arrive in Japan to cover their own backsides as they don't care about you. They are only interested in filling the slots in the schools and do little to help you outside of school time with general daily matters.. if money is involved, of course they will be on top of you every second.
They hire people in your local area (or close to) to help you with any issues you may have but never utilize these people in an attempt to save money.. "if you need to translate, call us and we will translate over the phone..". That is extremely rude to be doing when you have actual human beings you have hired to sort these issues out.
Why hire them in the first place?
Pay is poor and they promised an increase of around $10-20.. if they have the available funds.. looks like that's not happening then!
From my understanding, interac take a large portion of the money from the Board of Education and keep it for themselves when they should be paying it to the ALTs. Talk about being cheap huh?
Pay is prorated and there is no pay in summer or winter but, you are warned of that beforehand so beware!
Half the time you covers with the staff on the phone about anything important (or anything money related) they won't give you a straight answer in an attempt to get out of that phone call incase the end result ends with interac having to pay for something. Again, talk about being cheap.
They don't tell you the costs of many things beforehand such as, car hire (expensive) and your initial key costs for your apartment on purpose and then they will and you a "loan form" so you have no choice to but to borrow money from them and then pay them back with a lot of interest. No thanks! Of course, for those of you who need a loan, that option is there for you but be prepared beforehand.
Some of the trainers thought they were the bees knees and shot all the comments down from us newbies and made us look like fools! Who do you think you are?! I should've put you in your place Infront of the whole company! "There is no such thing as a bad question guys...." Yeah right!

There are MANY more things to add to this list however, this company does have a bad wrap around Japan and they know it which is why they ALWAYS lose their contracts. This means no job security for the coming years.

I'm beyond disappointed with the practices of this company and the particular branch I was working for. How they are still in business is beyond me..

Wouldn't recommend long term or for the easily frustrated people. (If you're not easily frustrated now, after joining this company, you will be!)

    Advies aan management

Pull your heads out and start looking after your employees properly regardless of whether or not it has anything to do with money!
Don't push your ICs to the side and dont fill the newbies heads with lies!
