Pluspunten

To be clear, this review refers to tutorrio, the internal learning branch within Klarrio (unless stated otherwise). - Topics and projects could be genuinely interesting and valuable if managed properly. - Flexible work setup and a certain degree of autonomy (though mostly due to lack of guidance). - The broader Klarrio team has many brilliant, friendly engineers and other experts who are a pleasure to work with.

Minpunten

To be clear, this review refers to tutorrio, the internal learning branch within Klarrio (unless stated otherwise). The Course Designer role started out as 'Instructional Designer' and was created and personally recruited for by Tutorrio’s leadership to bring learning design expertise into the team. However, the role was quickly redefined to fit an existing technical framework rather than allowing the intended expertise to shape it, creating misalignment from the start. - Communication without shared understanding. Information is distributed in a narrow, top-down manner that overlooks how different roles interpret or depend on it. Without context or collaborative framing, alignment breaks down quickly, leaving team members dependent on constant clarification rather than being able to move forward with confidence. - Limited appreciation for non-technical expertise. Leadership tends to undervalue skills and insights outside the engineering domain, which undermines cross-functional collaboration and stifles innovation. This was clear even in how new roles were scoped and managed. Specialized positions, such as learning design, were recruited for their expertise but later reshaped around technical assumptions, leaving little room for the very knowledge they were meant to contribute. - Feedback culture that discourages growth. Feedback focuses heavily on what went wrong rather than how to improve, and positive or constructive recognition is rare. This fosters caution instead of growth. - Deflection of accountability. When things don’t go as planned, responsibility is often redirected downward instead of prompting reflection on leadership, processes, or clarity. - Restricted collaboration and accessibility. Even within a very small team, communication with leadership is overly formal and requires scheduled meetings for basic alignment. This structure made genuine collaboration difficult and reinforced a one-directional, hierarchal management style, where expectations existed without shared understanding or context. - Homogeneous leadership culture. Senior leadership largely shares the same professional background, mindset, and long-established ways of working. This familiarity makes internal navigation easier for them, but narrows how information and feedback are interpreted. As a result, issues raised by others (especially from disciplines outside engineering) are often misunderstood or minimized, reinforcing a cycle where leadership remains largely unaware of deeper problems. This inward focus creates communication blind spots and a tendency to treat friction as individual failure rather than a signal to improve collaboration and inclusion across the company. - Low psychological safety. Raising concerns or asking for clarity rarely leads to meaningful change, causing employees to feel undervalued and unheard. Tutorrio’s isolation from the rest of Klarrio, combined with a leadership style that centralizes communication through a single viewpoint, leaves senior management with an incomplete understanding of internal dynamics. Because leadership at large is used to interpreting input through a shared, like-minded lens, differing perspectives are easily misunderstood or dismissed. As the company grows and its workforce becomes more diverse, I worry this disconnect will continue to hinder transparency and trust.
