This review is part truth and part fiction and so I wanted to create some balance for people who don't know Activity Superstore. Firstly, it is true that we have a strict 5 days per week in the office policy. Our experience of homeworking during the pandemic was that it stifled creativity and communication and obstructed learning. It was also hated by a number of our team and so we wanted everyone back together in a shared environment where we can learn from the conversations going around us and add value to other people's problem solving. Home working simply does not suit our business model or conversational style. Secondly, it is true that many people report directly into a Director which most people like because decision-making is fast and the usual office politics don't really exist. It does mean that "fake-it-to-make-it" doesn't work here. If you are seeking somewhere to hide and make a wage then this is not the place for you! It is also true that our Digital Marketing team works in a "fancy" WeWork office and we do provide fruit and snacks for our teams. Is that a bad thing? It is also true that we do not have an HR Manager - we have an HR company, Citation, and a number of helplines eg a Mental Health Line, to support people. I'm not sure that's bad either!! It is completely untrue about work hours and flex. Some people start at 8am, some at 9.30am; some shorten lunchtimes to go earlier. Some people leave at 4.15pm, others at 6pm. What we do promise people is that we don't operate a "sweat-shop" environment and the Directors are ALWAYS the last to leave (generally before 6pm every day). Sounds alright to me. We do, however, expect people to positively contribute and we try to offer opportunity. If you want to get on whilst learning a lot, then immediate exposure to the Directors and fast decision-making will appeal to you. If you want to tread water and try to get by with minimal effort, then we would definitely rather not have you as part of our team.
