Acuity Brands is a leading player in the North American lighting and controls industry. The company has a solid balance sheet, partly driven by its strong focus on cost management. Its sales network is second to none. At one point in time, we used to have constant organizational changes, but not anymore. The consistent performers enjoy a fair level of job stability. The company culture incentivizes continuous improvement. Salaried associated enjoy a flexible work schedule and competitive pay. The new management team has continued to improve the culture, offering additional benefits, support groups for minorities and a renewed focus on sustainability. All in all, Acuity is a very good place to work, especially for those who enjoy working in a dynamic environment.

Minpunten

One challenge to be resolved is the company’s legacy technology. There is an aspiration to modernize the systems, but the IS/IT bandwidth is limited. Some materials planning practices are not ideal to manage an electronics supply-chain, in today’s environment. There is an effort to promote career development, but no corporate programs to expose high performers to different functions and geographies. No company is perfect, In Acuity's case the positives outweigh the negatives.

Fully remote, collaboration is excellent with Sales and Engineering teams. Nice people.

Onboarding was awful. Tend to turnover people frequently, always around April and October, which coincides with their fiscal year. HR people are never the same for very long. Medical benefits are ok. Questionable ethics in the Legal & Compliance Dept of all places. It's evidenced with all the legal counsel they have hired, there are more of them than there are customer service people it seems. It pays the bills, but it's not a job one should count on for long term. It seems the strategy is hire with high pay, but let go within a year. Seen it happen to many people.
