Proper handling of hazardous chemicals and lack of PPE is astoundingly poorly enforced or actively ushered as not a big deal. A recent example of this is aqua regia being handled outside of fume hoods next to other analysts performing computer work. The lab is disheveled on any given day, unless there is a talking head from corporate or an audit scheduled to appear soon. Proper methodology in sample testing is approached as an option in a lot of cases, more often there is quite a bit of corner cutting to meet deadlines, but neither the company (nor seemingly its clients) care so long as the resulting data matches closely enough with historical data. Leadership treats the company like a social club, if you don't want to play office politics stay away. For example, the entirety of the analyst level leadership is made up of drinking buddies that may or may not drink on the job, as well.
