I came into this project several months after it had begun. Like so many other Companies, Corporations along with small business owners were, for lack of more eloquent description, in a haphazard mad-dash to complete very necessary and grossly underestimated (usually company-wide) projects to at minimum bring their Windows-based machines to a suitable upgrade (Win7 to Win10 mostly) before Microsoft literally pulled the plug on all Windows 7 Enterprise support (forever). Little did most these project managers and decision-maker-types know was that these projects were never just as easy as running a few autonomous upgrades while clicking the "Next" box as prompted. In fact, at GCI I was actually brought into the project because the powers that finally began to accept there was no way were would be coming close to our deadline and despite our relatively small team of Techs (5 before I arrived, making me #6), we were also (naturally) being tasked with the crucial responsibility of not just upgrading these machines, but more so, we were responsible for the: imaging, remediation, top-to-bottom updates and testing (not just the OS jump), coordination with the end users, scheduling said in individuals, and perhaps most importantly; doing our very upmost to maintain and nearly perfectly preserve the software, the functionality of said outdated and remedial software, the end-users personal style/[preference regarding the most minute and explicit details. All these factors, along with the time constraints, and the ever-inflating (plus, of course the clearly foreseeable budgetary overages... Well let's just say they were never truly prepared for what they put little thought or time into proper preparation and a more reasonable sight to set our ambitions upon. Please don't mistake my candor for arrogance, as I had no real clue that I would be quite swiftly ushered into the position of not just leading that small and disarrayed team onward and forward, but it became very clear that whether I was ready for it or not in my own mind, I was being tasked with a formidable and nearly hopeless task 0f turning it all around with very little support from my superior. That being said, I ‘ve never been on to back away from a challenge so I did what I do best, this time just under the unfamiliar mantle of the team-lead. Though it was quite a task, we managed to actually complete the project just on the the scheduled time and had even failed to go more than a pittance over budge All things considered, that opportunity turned out to b e a truly outstanding experience or myself in so many ways and I have no doubt it’s made me an even more capable, professional, and I’m not too bashful to admit, a damn valuable IT Technician. I can only hope to show that to you with more than just words someday.

My only real regret or "Con" in this particular instance was allowing myself to ride the momentum of my success to what I was sure to be an even greater step-up for me career. I couldn't have known but that step brought me 2500 miles away from what could very well have been an impressive and long-term careeer in the IT Field; only to find myself arriving at what was to be my next "Step-Up" in Spokane, Washington. That was one week before COVID-10 struck Washington State, soon enough ended with me, like so many others being furloughed due to the catastrophic impact to our economy and way of life, and frankly, I've been doing my damndest just to get back to where I was again. That being said, I'm still doing the work I love, I'm still healthy and alive, and I still see the glass as a being always half-full. That's just who I am.
