Startups, especially in a space as fast-moving as AI, can feel intense, particularly in roles close to the product and go-to-market motion. These roles often operate at the “eye of the storm,” where urgency, change, and learning curves are steep, but so is the potential for impact and growth. While we try to be transparent about that during interviews, we know it can be hard to imagine what that looks like day to day, especially early in your career.
Our goal with the internship was to provide meaningful responsibility, growth, and a path to a full-time role. When challenges arose, we worked to offer more structure and support including regular check-ins, collaboratively set goals, and feedback. We understand those efforts may have felt like pressure or micromanaging rather than helpful, which was never our intention.
At the same time, there were some broader challenges – including frequent unplanned time off, repeated missed timelines we had aligned on, and inconsistent meeting attendance – that made it hard to provide a consistent and productive experience for both you and the team. Our priority was always helping you succeed, and we stayed committed until it became clear it wasn’t the right fit.
