My experience at Alta Genetics suggested an opportunity for greater alignment between role expectations, onboarding structure, and training support. During the interview process, the position was described as having a strong emphasis on guidance during the first year. In practice, the onboarding approach appeared less structured than anticipated. Initial training focused primarily on generalized learning modules, followed by a limited range of operational tasks. These activities did not consistently build toward full system proficiency or independent role readiness. The role involves detailed, multi-step workflows. However, formalized training materials, defined learning milestones, and a documented progression plan were limited. While team members were knowledgeable and supportive when available, ongoing mentorship capacity appeared constrained, and expectations regarding independence during the probationary period were not clearly articulated. Throughout the onboarding period, I regularly communicated availability for additional responsibilities and requested further exposure to core systems and processes. Despite this, opportunities for structured skill development remained limited. When an operational error occurred during the probationary period, accountability was taken promptly, and guidance was proactively requested to support corrective action and learning. Shortly thereafter, it was determined that the role was not the right fit. From an onboarding and change-management perspective, this outcome appeared influenced by gaps in training structure and expectation alignment rather than effort or engagement. Management availability for hands-on coaching was limited, which may present challenges for individuals requiring structured onboarding within complex operational environments. This organization may be well-suited to candidates who are able to acquire proficiency independently with minimal formal training. Prospective employees seeking clearly defined onboarding frameworks, consistent mentorship, and documented training pathways may benefit from discussing these elements in detail prior to accepting a role.
