I’ve worked at Avista for the majority of my working life, which I think gives me some unique insight into what it’s like to work here. I have worked in many different roles in three distinct groups in the business and have enjoyed each stop. Avista encourages employee development and internal movement. The company would rather see an internal employee move into a new role first before they hire from the outside. This helps with bench strength and connecting different areas of the company. Employees should find the culture and environment welcoming, but as with any business learning how the company operates takes a little bit of time. This is going to sound like the company line – but the core values of being trustworthy, innovative and collaborative are real and a focus of leadership. I’ve had the opportunity to work with many leaders across the company, including our executive officer team, most of whom are homegrown employees who rose through the ranks to get where they are today. Overall, Avista has been a blessing to me, which is not something most people say about their employer. I would recommend working here to my friends and family. I trust they would be treated fairly and have opportunities to learn and grow.

Very few cons. With employee tenure so long, it may take some time for newer employees to find their place. Being open to changes in your career path is certainly something that longer-tenured employees have accepted to remain engaged. Employees who work in the field have different challenges and experiences than employees who are primarily in the office. Both groups can have difficulties relating to one another.
