Pluspunten
- Vacation policy is based on years of experience in the industry and related professional field, so any veteran can easily start with 5 - 6 weeks of vacation upon hiring without having to negotiate. - In-house cafeteria (BEstro) offers breakfast and lunch to employees working in-house. - Most devs are experienced, friendly, and are helpful whenever struggle happens. - Studio tries to avoid as much as possible overtime even though there are occasions there might be a need (in 7 years, only had to do around 10 hours of overtime). - Wide variety of ongoing projects with different clients.
Minpunten
- Upper management are liars and manipulative. During the time video game industry was hot due to the pandemic lockdowns; they lied on how they would keep the option of working from home at full time indefinitely after the lockdowns were over since it had no negative impact on the teams' productivity. This was all lies as a mean to keep all talents from going elsewhere who valued their time by not having to waste time and money to travel to work while most other studios were requiring to show up atleast 2 days a week. Now that the market have cooled down and other recruiters are chasing less after talents, upper management decided to shutdown on the option from working from home at full time. - Upper management are liars and manipulative. During the time the video game industry was hot due to the pandemic lockdowns; they lied on how they would keep the option of working from home at full time indefinitely after the lockdowns were over since it had no negative impact on the teams' productivity and it only had positive benefits for the employees. This was all lies as a mean to keep all talents from going elsewhere who valued their time by not having to waste time and money to travel to work while most other studios were requiring to show up atleast 2 days a week. Now that the market have cooled down and other recruiters are chasing less after talents, upper management decided to shutdown on the option from working from home at full time unless you live 60 km away from the office, which is complete non-sense and unfair. - Salaries are not competitive and are under market in comparison to the industry. Many of us did not mind since the time and money we were saving from not having to travel to the office while working from home balanced things out. But for all of us who will need to spend money now on gas and parking or public fare, in addition of our valuable time to travel just to fulfill the desires of a delusional CEO; many of us are already looking to move elsewhere while some are even looking into getting the employees of the studio unionize (funny enough, the enforaced return to office will make this factor easier). - The studio claims they are pro DEI, in addition of pushing DEI training to its staff. And yet, the studio itself doesn't have any Equity senses toward its employees... A good example would be the imposed return to office policy and their BEhappy policy which offers the employees to file claims on some of their personal purchases to have a refund for up to a certain value (depends on type of employment contract). Anyone who is lucky enough to be living 60 km away from the office will be able to use their BEhappy claims for whatever personal purchases they want, while all those who wanted to continue to work from home but are forced to come back will be forced to use this BEhappy policy to avoid losing money on their travel expenses... - Many layoffs took place this year due to poor management of the studio. They were expecting the market trend to remain hot indefinitely like it was during the pandemic lockdowns and thus went on to expend its staff number by hiring many permanent employees in addition of acquiring studios. In the end, they ended up having 2 rounds of layoff in addition of closing a whole studio they acquired (let alone, announced they acquired a new studio 2 weeks after announcing they were closing one...). - The studio is located in a terrible area that is a mix between residential and commercial lots that is constantly under construction (because that's how Montreal roll...). For anyone who travels by car, you'll have a hard time to find any parking due to how all the residential lots do not have any driveways (thus they all park their vehicles on the street) in addition of the construction that blocks a lot of the streets... And if you travel by public transit, you have a 20 - 30 minutes walk to the nearest subway station... - Even though the in-house caferia offers free breakfast and lunch, the menu is limited to 1 item for breakfast and 1 item for lunch every day. So if the menu have something that does not fit your personal taste, you won't have any other choices but to bring your own lunch, since as previously mentioned, the studio is located in a terrible position with mostly only pubs in the area and overpriced locals... - Employees moral is at its lowest it ever was. Many of us do not feel like there's employement security due to all the recent layoffs, in addition of all the policy changes within the company that are clear as day the studio is trying to push soft layoffs so people would leave on their own.
