Whatever you do, do not believe any of the assurances/promises from the recruiters or school management. Everything they say is like a pie crust: easily made and easily broken. Neither verbal nor written assurances / promises are honoured. Never complain about being deceived as to accommodation and financial assistance. They place you in a squalid apartment (a room with a bed and kitchen unit next to each other), unfit for human habitation, with no water, no heating, no electricity, a damp and filthy mattress, and black mould on the walls. There is no way of connecting your UK bank card through Allipay to access utilities. When this is all pointed out, you are repeatedly told, "It's only for a month." After four days in the school and one week in China, the school told me, "You are not adapting quickly enough, and we are letting you go.". Just to point out: I had already purchased a metro card and found my way around several supermarkets and engaged with the locals, as well as finding a hotel with basic amenities to stay in, all while using foreign cash currency and Google translate. The Chinese assistant at the school took over the one and only 90-minute class I had, which did not allow me to show case my teaching style and methods. The school wants only American English being taught, as all the foreign teachers are American. If you are British, you are screwed and condemned by the higher-ups for your pronunciation of words.
