Pluspunten
Well-known international brand with strong branding. Operations were generally stable in the beginning, and processes followed universal guidelines. Training was provided and systems were structured.
Minpunten
The core issue stemmed from poor ownership and management decisions by the Singapore franchise owner. Ongoing cash flow problems impacted renovations, daily operations, and overall business stability. Disputes with external partners occurred despite signed contracts, further worsening operational challenges. Capable and experienced staff were dismissed, while less suitable and incomplete teams were retained. Management placed excessive trust in a single highly paid employee without sufficient checks and balances, leading to ineffective decision-making. As a result, both BoConcept and USM brands were eventually taken over by new owners, despite the strength of the brands themselves. Multiple outlets closed over time. The failure was not due to the brands, but weak leadership, poor financial management, and lack of strategic direction.
