Pluspunten

Salary (LOW) Benefits. (Low) Some management is good. Fighting for independent business.

Minpunten

So cons. Your salary runs you between 20 amd 24 dollars an hour after taxes your salary hardly matters. You do have considerable travel. Fuel costs are high. Insurance repairs and they make it mandatory you carry additional auto insurance. After a full year it cost me an average of 976 dollars a month in fuel. Insurance 250, your cell which you need not compensated. Their abysmal monthly bonus. Cut income down less than half. It was presented as a way to pay employees more money faster but instead it brought down the amount some of other dms income. Lack of acknowledgement for different areas of Canada.

Thank you for taking the time to share this detailed feedback. I can see you felt strongly about your experience and I appreciate the candour, even where it is challenging. The District Manager role does involve travel and there are real costs that come with working across a large territory, especially in Western Canada. We are constantly reviewing our salary levels, our allowances for costs and our commission and bonus rates to try to keep up. But there is no question that inflationary pressures have created additional challenges for everyone. In fact, we are just making another change in District Manager compensation, on top of the new bonus model we launched in January 2026. I’m pleased to report that the new model has meant higher overall compensation for most of our team. We also issue a T2200 to help offset some of these expenses at tax time. On the broader comments about management culture and how ideas are received, I do want to gently push back. We have worked hard to build an organization where people feel comfortable raising new ideas. I can tell you that I receive dozens of recommendations from staff per month, and while I’m not able to move forward on them all, our management team spends a great deal of time reviewing every suggestion and implementing what we can. If your experience with your manager was different than that, I’d be keen to hear more. I wish you well in whatever comes next. Dan Kelly President & CEO

Thanks for the positive review. No surprise, but I agree with you that we have a positive working environment and some incredible people working for the Federation. I just wrapped up 2 days hosting our new colleagues from across Canada in our national office in Toronto. It was great fun and left me very confident in the new crop of staff we are bringing in across the organization.

Pay structure is capped everywhere, you have to always be a top sales person or you will never get anywhere, the top or nothing to survive on, you will burn out

Thanks for the feedback. I’m pleased that you identified with our cause at CFIB. Small business owners have really struggled this past year and I have been so impressed with how our team has responded with advice and support. We’ve just completed Zoom meetings with our teams across most provinces, and staff are consistently reporting how proud they are to work for CFIB at this critical time. I’m sorry that it appears your pay expectations were not met. The District Manager job is not always an easy one and needs to be treated as a full-time role. While things were particularly challenging over the past year (due to the need to contact business owners virtually for several months), I am proud to report that nearly 15,000 small business owners made the decision to buy a paying membership during the pandemic. With the unprecedented awareness and interest in CFIB, this certainly helped us attract new members despite the challenging economic times. While serving our members is our main focus, our entire senior management team is committed to making CFIB a great place for staff to work and earn a good living. I believe we do a really solid job of that, but I am always looking for input from current (and former) staff along the way. Thanks for writing.
