Employees at the restaurant level are great. They honestly do way too much for how they are treated in return. This goes for both hourly employees and most salaried restaurant managers. The shifts are fun and the camaraderie is great.

Corporate restaurants tend to have problematic atmospheres but I truly believe CPK to be one of the worst, if not the absolute worst. It is very abusive and exploitative towards restaurant staff from the corporate center. The amount of ridiculous responsibilities that are piled on operations managers inhibit them being able to execute what is actually most important in their roles- food safety, employee safety and well being, and guest satisfaction. Corporate has made it very clear through the years that everyone in the company is easily expendable, and no amount of flashy GM retreats is going to rectify the constant feeling of potential impending doom around the corner no matter how hard you work or what you achieve. HR used to be ok. They would make mistakes now and again but would apologize if that were the case. Now there is no accountability and since the pandemic HR and corporate are desperate to stop manager turnover to save money which results in them allowing really hostile work environments to flourish despite credible complaints from hourly staff and even other managers. Basically, with every change in executive leadership this company gets further and further from what it started as and from what it supposedly wanted to be. It has been owned by a venture capital firm for many years now and one of the first things they did was take out loans against the value of the company after they acquired it and then turned around and payed themselves with dividends while saddling the company with the burden of paying the debt. This resulted in layoffs and store closures and bankruptcy and restructuring of debt. The actions of this venture capital firm resulted in the culture tanking and the hard working employees have payed the consequence for their greed.
