Worst company ever. Old management. Arrive early. Leave late. Drink coffee. Doesn't matter if you are incompetent. Run.. - werkgeversreview Anonieme werknemer bij Carrefour

Pluspunten

The salary. You will be paid much more than what you deserve for the same job, same skills, same level, in another company. Carrefour knows that. It invests in the salary only to make you do countless hours, and to give itself the right to ask you to do the amount of work of 2 people. All that I say in the cons about the managers is true. However, there are some exceptions. Some high level directors have been recruited from outside, instead of growing in the company for 40 years. And those new directors are intelligent, respect people, and will be extremely good managers. But you'll have to deserve it and to be good in politics to work for them. Unfortunately, being good managers will not give them more money. You will still have to do the job of more than 1 person.

Minpunten

Monarchical management. Some people are here from their 15ies and began by opening boxes in stores. They have been growing because it couldn't be another way. They have no clue of what being a good manager is. Talking to your direct manager is highly prefered. If you do not respect that, it will cause problems from the direct one, who will make anything possible to show his little authority. Your level doesn't count. Position counts. How many people do not have any degree and look at you as if you knew nothing. Having being there for years is what gives them authority and power. And they always think that the new ones will come and take their place, because they don't need 40 years to be able to do the same job. So everything is done in a general way to lighten the evolution. You just don't. You can change department if you want a different job and a better salary. But most of time, the salary stays the same. And to go in another department, don't look at the job board. It is never updated at the minute. What will make you change is somebody. Knowing the good person that will recommend you. Diminishing and breaking people is a day to day habbit for managers of most of the departments, especially in the "bazar" department. They have no training and don't have the time to go to the ones that are scheduled for them, because they don't have the time for anything. As mean and incompetent as they all are, it must be said that managers are living the same pressure from the directors, who themselves, don't have the right to live because are asked for weekly meetings on Saturday mornings, and are doing the same unfinishing hours. You just don't see them because they have late meetings in another place. In a general way, there is more politics than competency. An undecently large number of people just hide and do nothing during the day, because the salary is good, husbands/wives/children/mortgages, no degree and the past 20 to 40 years in the company. They do not have an interesting job, sometimes they do not have something to do at all, but they arrive every morning very VERY VERY early, and leave very late, in order to show they were here. I saw a man coming every day during 5 months with no job, no mission, no responsibility. That was following big changes in the company, beginning with the CEO himself, and a lot of directors and managers. So during 5 months of uncertainty, every day, he was facebooking, reading his emails, drinking coffee, and that's all. But he was not the only one. It's a kind of world that implicitly says : Let that guy live his last years before retirement and don't mess with him, because he's been here for 35 years, and 50% of the people do the same. But be united against young intelligent with-a-degree people. They are not the same. They don't know what it means to come from the ground. They did not suffer from working in the stores like we all did. They don't know what it is to start the day at 3am and to finish at 6 or 7pm. They don't deserve to have a good position. That would be stealing an old pal's possibility. And this is also what they think about your working hours. Don't arrive after 9am. You will see that you are the latest one. People are here from 7am. Even earlier in the fresh food department. And for them, it is totally normal. They look at you with condescendance when you say no to a 8am meeting. If you have the courage to say no. Because I saw number of people saying no during 3 months, and then being compelled to come to every meeting. Don't leave at 5pm. OMG! The old ones will say "Oh? So you are taking your afternoon off, right?". A friend told me she decided to have no pause and no lunch, so that she could leave earlier. Colleagues argued to her: "Nobody sees you when you are sacrificing your lunch and work during the time they are out of the office. But everybody is looking at his watch when you leave". And that's true for when you arrive and when you leave.
