Pluspunten
Not too many pros. Working with small groups (6-8 students) is the only real pro. You do sometimes get to set your own schedule, but it's often difficult to work within the schools' many different classroom schedules. Catapult gives you "curriculum" to use, but depending on the grade, it can be hit or miss and is getting to be outdated (scripted lessons/older references/teaching methods). This could be a very nice job, but due to the issues listed below, it ends up being more stress than it's worth.
Minpunten
-Turnover is horrendous; many new hires quit after just shadowing for a day. -No respect or appreciation shown to staff who comply with all of their crazy paperwork heavy demands -and- are effective teachers. Company doesn't seem to care too much about the quality of teaching, as long as their insane amounts of paperwork are complied with. -Low, low, low pay - and even cases of people with more teaching experience or advanced degrees paid less than new hires with less experience/education, and promises of raises never being acted upon. When you break it down, it's probably better off to work part time - I heard from a supervisor that part time makes $23/hr, and then when you break down full time wage it works out to being $20/hr or less. -Horrible benefits. -Supervisors don't answer your questions and even seem annoyed when you ask anything. -Coworkers get moved around from school to school right after getting settled in the middle of the year - not good for students and very disrespectful to the teachers! -No job stability - can get bumped from a place you liked to a place you don't want to work out of nowhere, and don't find out until last minute because there is absolutely no communication from administration (while they expect the utmost communication from your part, of course) & no idea if you'll have a job come fall for the entire summer and then don't find out if you'll stay where you were or if you've been put somewhere else (without your consent). -I've heard way too many horror stories about school placement from coworkers.
