Pluspunten

Pay is good, benefits are ok, the people are usually nice and well-meaning. Hard to find another company with the vision that we have. Good work / life balance

Minpunten

Extremely political environment. Managers who are put in place because of nepotism, not because they were good at their jobs. Incompetent managers who should be fired because all of their reports hate them yet still manage to stay in place because of politics. The only people who get fired are individuals. I don’t think there has been a single manager in technology that has been fired despite attrition and challenges on the teams. Clover is not a tech company. The company has 40 engineers and has over 400 employees. We did not hire almost any engineers for a year. Executives have 0 understanding of tech (but think they do) — most come from a healthcare and operations background. They view engineering, product and data science as a way to make their lives easier. Leadership on the product and data science teams is a joke and everyone knows it — the managers have no idea what they’re doing and have experienced lots of attrition. As a result, we’re doing exactly what dozens of other healthcare companies are doing with no vision for how we’ll differentiate. In the mean time, 0 accountability as we fail to meet goal after goal. Goals are made arbitrarily, people point fingers at each other and spend more time arguing about whose fault it is or how to get their team staffed then moving towards the goal. Not data driven so no way to measure progress. Leadership fails to own up to mistakes and instead blames individuals below them. Our lack of execution has led us to being more focused on dollars than on the members we serve.

There have been significant changes in the organization that address many of the points you raised up -- an overhaul of our calibration process, ramped up tech hiring (we hired 15 engineers in Q1'18!) and the rollout of our OKR process to better define accountability and prioritization.
