Pluspunten

co-workers, salary, swag, Camp Compass (no longer there), back-end support (no longer there).

Minpunten

Compass has done significant lay offs since I started with the company. Since my employment in 2018, they laid off staff twice. Even employees who had been with the company since the beginning, as well as employees who went above and beyond their job description, were laid off under the "guise" of COVID-19. Compass is a "hype machine". This company reels people in, poaches people, and gives people false expectations with a competitive salary, benefits package, and culture, which are all diminishing. They promised unlimited sick time, gym reimbursements, snacks, etc. which have all been slowly removed. I was told that I had to be let go, not because of my performance, but because the company financially could not keep me on payroll. They let a majority of us go on a combined video conference call, after we were loyal employees for years and years. What the company did to its devoted staff members was sickening. They did not think about the livelihood of the people who help make the company run.

Pluspunten

People are smart. Very much a “move fast and break things” culture which can be refreshing compared to bureaucracy-heavy corporate life. I don’t agree with their values (if they have any) but what they’re doing is unquestionably working - business outlook is strong.

Minpunten

Leadership will tell you there’s no ego or self-interest involved in their strategy - that is untrue. It’s an extremely heliocentric culture around the CEO. A lot of the work is based around what people they're guessing he’ll like, but there’s no alignment at the outset and something you worked on for weeks/months will be trashed after one look from him. Their mission is ostensibly about empowering agents but they are solving a problem that pretty much no one was complaining about before they started, and which just so happens to work highly in their favor in terms of market share. It’s just business but very disingenuous- don’t believe the hype that it’s altruistic somehow. Also the CEO loves to share his sob story about his single mother upbringing, but simultaneously enacts some of the most anti-parent policies you could think of.
