Pluspunten

- Tech company perks — cool product, great benefits, flexible time off, and being part of a national company with name-brand recognition. - Wonderfully smart, clever people to work alongside with, and no office politics or toxic team culture! Compass's people are top-notch, when they're allowed to let loose a little. - Passionate, active Diversity Council creating tangible changes in the Real Estate community. Incredible speaker series, roundtables, and events were a real highlight of my time there.

Minpunten

- A bizarre, exclusionary internal communication structure that creates siloed departments and teams. The need-to-know culture trickles down from the top, leaving folks in the field scrambling with last-minute information. - Habit of throwing money at new talent instead of promoting/appropriately compensating the great team already under the hood. If you're applying, negotiate up front! You won't see bonuses or substantial increases once you're on payroll. - Emphasis on selling the product (Compass tech platform) instead of helping the agents — hitting KPIs is the first priority, agent needs the second. - A 'That's not my job' team culture — obsession with lanes, internal procedure, and moving agents through the steps as efficiently as possible. No room for creative problem solving or using your brain. If you like talk tracks, you'll be right at home.

Pluspunten

People are smart. Very much a “move fast and break things” culture which can be refreshing compared to bureaucracy-heavy corporate life. I don’t agree with their values (if they have any) but what they’re doing is unquestionably working - business outlook is strong.

Minpunten

Leadership will tell you there’s no ego or self-interest involved in their strategy - that is untrue. It’s an extremely heliocentric culture around the CEO. A lot of the work is based around what people they're guessing he’ll like, but there’s no alignment at the outset and something you worked on for weeks/months will be trashed after one look from him. Their mission is ostensibly about empowering agents but they are solving a problem that pretty much no one was complaining about before they started, and which just so happens to work highly in their favor in terms of market share. It’s just business but very disingenuous- don’t believe the hype that it’s altruistic somehow. Also the CEO loves to share his sob story about his single mother upbringing, but simultaneously enacts some of the most anti-parent policies you could think of.
