Pluspunten
Fun sports environment, good co workers, flexible schedules if you’re in school (college or high school) overnights (and traveling to stores) are good money
Minpunten
Low wages. Expensive benefits (almost $300 off each paycheck for full benefits), almost zero pto, scheduling for full timers is still not a guarantee I was scheduled the minimum and they still expect you to clock out for lunch which takes even more hours off your check, strict on scheduling to leave early or stay late (don’t clock out for lunch) it’s a write up (but only if management hasn’t picked you as a favorite and let you eat other employee hours), poor quality uniforms they expect you during the cold months to wear really thin uniforms (not allowed to wear hoodies, and if you want a company one it’s $50) which it’s always freezing in back stocks and having to still load equipment into cars outside (which is a good amount of the day for a lot of full timers) and it’s atomically hot in the summer but we can’t wear shorts at a sports store, two faced upper management and corporate, I was fired for arguing with a new manager who was treating all of us like garbage especially the young part timers who she threatened their job basically everyday if they didn’t get her metrics (but of course she would be sitting in the office on her laptop for 6 hours) HR does not work for you they are simply there to help corporate terminate employees. They will make promises for more hours and raises but then never do it and take advantage of hard working employees. Had a friend move from Brookfield to Madison with a promise of a raise and never got it and he has left the company since. They don’t hire internal leads for manager positions, often they prefer to hire out of company and then expect you to train that person. I’ve heard managers make gross comments about underage girls who work for us and customers as well. Very much “rules for thee not for me” attitude from managers, they expect a lot out of the employees and then do nothing to support them. Store manager will pick a assistant manager or key holder they don’t care for and schedule them to close every shift including weekends. Management takes tons of vacations but I can’t get more than a couple pto and sick days? Overall don’t work here unless it’s an “in between” job or right out of college and needing money. Young part timers, you can find a better job elsewhere, and if you want to work at a sports store go to golf galaxy or find a different company to work at, it’s not worth your time to get abused at Dick’s and get scheduled one day a month because your manager doesn't like you but won’t train you properly. I was also shipped out to help the pop up clearance store, I was told it would be a fill in job until they hired a key holder, the window was late September then back to my normal store in November for holidays. But of course it was just easier (taking advantage of a good employee) for them to inconvenience me and keep me at the clearance store, which then they began using me as an assistant store manager and not pay me more for the increased work load (hiring, training, on boarding) the “store manager” showed up once a week to write the schedule and never closed. I had to call off for school during finals and they had the audacity to get mad at me like I wanted the manager shifts in the first place. What should have been a couple months ended up being September all the way up to April. I didn’t get out until I threatened to leave the company. I was also in charge of our diversity and inclusion board which I made every months. Had employees rip down the LGBTQIA flags one month which is extremely concerning considering we had employees who identified with the community, my concerns over it were ignored. (Also the diversity captain for our district was a straight white rich guy, I’m not one to complain about race in hiring, but seriously? With the diversity in the company you couldn’t pick someone who understands diversity differently?) overall don’t work here, I promise there are better jobs out there.
