Pluspunten
Opportunity to gain hands-on retail management experience and learn multiple aspects of store operations. Ability to earn commission. Fast-paced environment that builds multitasking and customer service skills.
Minpunten
The store operated with extremely limited staffing, often consisting of only two employees total. I was expected to work solo shifts very early on, including weekends, before being fully trained, while managing customers, operations, shipments, and orders at the same time.
Scheduling lacked balance and fairness, with extended weekend coverage and limited flexibility.
Leadership felt inconsistent, with minimal support and accountability. Professional boundaries were unclear, as I experienced frequent personal comments and invitations from management that made the work environment uncomfortable.
As a female employee in a male-focused retail environment, customer interactions could already be challenging, and the lack of clear boundaries from leadership added to that discomfort.
The termination process lacked transparency. I was not given a prior warning or clear escalation, and the decision was communicated solely through store management without the opportunity to speak with district leadership.
Compensation was relatively low for the level of responsibility ($14/hour plus commission), and overall support and structure did not match the demands of the role.
