5. My work impacts millions of people across the world. Knowing that what I do contributes to the lives of so many people is rewarding. The fact that we help people preserve their online privacy and access content they unable to makes me feel proud of my work. 4. The company invests in my progress and development. We have a career growth path that we discuss in our monthly 1:1s, and should we express interest in developing certain areas related (or even adjacent) to our field, our managers find a way to support us in that growth. We’re even encouraged to take (paid-for) courses that would help us be better at what we do. 3. I’m constantly learning from and surrounded by people who are great at what they do. Imagine working with people who are not only very skilled and brilliant, they also push and inspire you to be better. They’re here: talking in meetings, working in corner booths, making (bad-good) jokes on Slack, doing normal human things all the while being superhuman at work. 2. The HR Department (named “People Department” here) truly cares about the people. You can see it in small and big ways: mini tokens during holiday-themed days (Valentine’s Days, Mother’s Days, Lunar New Year, etc); investments in classes or team-building activities; eNPS surveys; People Newsletters; buying equipments for the organically-created office gym. 1. The people. Bright, kind, funny, hard-working, friendly, generous, interesting people. Say what you will about the interview process being long and arduous, but it seems to work. We attract, hire, and retain a lot of excellent, high-performing, quality individuals who are always growing. Not sure how we keep finding gems like these, but I would guess it must have come from top-down. I have a lot of trust and respect for the leadership at ExpressVPN, particularly for one of its founders, Peter Burchhardt, who embodies a growth mindset and advocates for a healthy work-life harmony. The #1 reason to work at ExpressVPN is the people. You can’t find these humans anywhere else. ————— ExpressVPN, of course, is not without faults. It’s a company that’s grown very fast in a very short period of time, and it’s had to learn a lot to keep good people in and kick bad people out. There’s still of course a few people who aren’t the easiest to work with (read: passionate), but every company has that, and the culture is structured to facilitate and nurture teamwork and camaraderie, so I believe it will sort out. ExpressVPN is a company that continues to learn and grow, and the way people are treated here reflects that. If you’re looking to love what you do (even during naturally stressful times) with people you love to work with, here is one place you’ll find that.
Minpunten
Has not been my problem or in my department as far as I can tell, but I can see not everyone feels comfortable expressing concerns, even though the culture and leadership encourages it.
