I love my job. I have been general manager for one year and look forward to work everyday. If you are a hard worker who doesn't get stuck in the negative you can be very very successful. FASTENAL is not for everyone. So much flexibility to run MY BUISNESS the way I want to. If you can go pound the pavement every day looking for opportunities and a sale you will be successful. Fastenal can teach you with the tools we have at our fingertips. But not everyone is worth the time.

Lots of responsibility. Decentralized company, which can work in your favor.

Pay is low based on competitors. Politics, lots of it. Cost-centers everywhere. Everyone has to make money off the branches: the hub, NA, regions, support, etc. Being a GM is probably one of the hardest jobs. Your job on the lean team is to support NA and the branch. It is hard to fully support both at the same time. It is a balancing act that frequently is blamed on you. Frequently, your coworkers just want to put their name on your work and create problems because of their egos.
