You will be expected to learn and do things unrelated to your goals just to maybe reach the role you actually want. If you value direct feedback, you won’t get it unless it’s already too late. Make sure you are proactive in seeking feedback. Managers are poor communicators when it comes to addressing concerns that could have been avoided earlier.
