Pluspunten

Fibre-Craft relocated into new state-of-the-art facilities four blocks north of the Chicago city limits just a bit over one year ago. The entry-level employees and mid-level management are a great bunch of people to work both for and with. The dress code is relatively casual, although jeans and sneakers are only allowed on Fridays. Birthday Bagel Day is a monthly highlight for the workers. It's easy to get in the door if you are a friend of the vice president of marketing. The company spends a good deal of money outsourcing design of branding, packaging and web site development. Focus groups are regularly invited to the office. The office is regularly repainted throughout the year.

Minpunten

Upper management does not get along with one another or see eye to eye. Health care benefits are costly and inadequate. The company does not offer flex time though managers regularly waltz into the office late - almost daily in fact. "Lifers" have a CYA attitude. New ideas are not welcome even though they say they have an open door policy. Company-wide policies are made without first polling employees. The human resources department is cozy with management and does not seem to welcome being an advocate for the employees. One former employee told me the reason they were leaving was because, "They always settle for mediocrity."

Pluspunten

Hard working, creative, dedicated people. New direction and new people are focused on results while respecting work life balance whenever possible. Information about new products, sales wins and company results and priorities are shared regularly with everyone at quarterly meetings, via all company emails and on screens throughout the building. The environment is one of accountability and ownership, which I like. Most of the leadership team(new) give direction and trust the teams to do their jobs and will jump in to help or guide when needed. Ownership is extremely supportive.

Minpunten

The company has been through several leadership and ownership changes of the last 5 years. There is a lot of ground to make up from a customer, marketing, and new product development perspective. The culture is improving enormously and still has some fractures from all the changes, old leadership style of fear, and complete lack of team work from the leadership team. Trust is rebuilding but very slowly. Still need help in becoming a true team.
