Minpunten
From the start, the onboarding process was almost nonexistent. In all of my previous internships and jobs, there was always a clear structure and a strong foundation between supervisors and their interns or assistants. Unfortunately, that was not the case at First Book. Rather than being given meaningful tasks during this position, I was assigned busy work, like counting pens in closets or scanning hundreds of documents. I’ve had to sit in my office and overhear my team talking about the mundane tasks I had to do, and say comments like “that poor girl” One positive note was that my team members were pretty very nice to me. Although the rest of the team (except my direct manager/mentor) didn’t have the time to train or involve me in anything. I had a few members on my team barely reach out to me. If a company can’t dedicate time to their interns or assistants, it’s better not to hire them at all. Working here made me realize the importance of being in a place where you're truly valued, and I'm very glad that I left First Book for a company that does. The lack of structure made me feel undervalued and, at times, even looked down upon. I would recommend considering other options. You do not want to be in an environment where being overlooked and underutilized is acceptable.
