First Choice is a supportive and fastly growing company which is striving to meet an unprecedented demand for in-home care services. Employees working in the office for first choice are welcomed into a supportive community of young people all striving to learn what it means to work in social services, and each looking to find the ways in which they can create positive change for the community. Due to the high demand for caregivers, the work is fast paced and the opportunities for making a difference and growing as an individual are great. In my time working for First Choice, I have been surrounded constantly by great people that are each striving to become better themselves, and are doing the best they can each day to better the lives of their clients and the caregivers that work for the company. Each in-office employee that works with the company, including those in outside departments such as payroll, HR, and the training departments, began at the company as either a supervisor, caregiver, or front office coordinator, and were then given opportunities for advancement into areas of work in which they most often did not have experience, but those employees were given the opportunity to learn and grow into these new areas because of the work ethic and dedication they demonstrated as a supervisor or in their previous position. Very few companies I have worked for offer this same kind of opportunity, and I will forever be grateful for this.

As someone that has worked for this company for over two years, I want to also address some of the less positive reviews I see from former coworkers that I had worked closely with, and which became my close friends. Working in social services is difficult for most people which enter into it, and as a result of this, there is a higher rate of turnover than there would be in a standard company. Due to the fact that First Choice does offer entry level positions into the social services field, it is sometimes the case that individuals that want to make a difference and help others romantasize the idea of doing so, and as a result overestimate their ability to self motivate when they enter into social services. Social work is a difficult field, and the demand for the work is currently greater than the supply due to the political and social climate we exist in. Because of these factors, some wonderful people that I have worked with have come to find out that while they do want to help others, they are not well suited to the role of being a supervisor with First Choice. Unfortunately, in some occasions that can be seen in the more negative reviews, when leaving First Choice, the people which did not find that they could meet the demands of this job begin to look outside of themselves for reasons as to why they did not succeed. While it is true that any company has room for improvement and First Choice is not an exception, as a non manager I routinely am offered and given vast amounts of support so that even when I do not feel that I am accomplishing everything that I wish that I could, I am re-motivated to continue to do the best that I can, and am reminded that the kinds of people that believe in the same ideals that I do are all around me at First Choice.
