Pluspunten

Some departments are well rounded, most people are friendly

Minpunten

With all the cons, you might ask why I even took the job? Well when I started the CTO was responsive and supportive but after he started his second job opening a restaurant/bar everything FluentStream became a second priority unless the CEO or Board was driving something. If you aren't part of the 'click' you won't be setup for success. The CTO is not a leader, he is a developer with the CTO title. He does not manage anyone. The CTO does not consider all solutions because he is an AWS Fanboy. He is very hypocritical with a 'do as I say, not as I do' mentality. They have a Chief of Staff better known as a glorified assistant to the CTO. That role was managing meetings and making excuses for the CTO's unavailability. It became too much for one person and a developer was promoted to help manage the work for the CTO and attend the meetings he could not make (nearly all of them). It became apparent that the promotion was based solely on the fact that the developer had flown out to help the CTO with his restaurant and quickly became the teachers pet. He does not have the knowledge to be in the role yet somehow can direct other developers on how to do the work they specialize in. If you question any of their direction or methodology you become the outsider to the Good 'ol Boy club. Leadership has allowed a toxic culture to be created, it started at the top down. The glorified assistant to the CTO is just as guilty. What is the point of a CTO that hires employees with the talent to do good work but only accepts the work done his way. His way is full of bottlenecks and rhetorical discussion.

Let me start by saying thank you for the feedback. One of our core values is “Continuous Improvement Isn’t Optional”, so with your review, we will do our best to reply with the same mindset. While we are glad to hear that some departments are well rounded and the people are friendly, we are sorry to hear that you did not have a great experience at FluentStream. - We do not have a policy restricting employees from having a second job outside of FluentStream as long as it does not interfere with their day-to-day duties and it is not directly a similar position in the same industry. Transparency is highly-valued by all Streamers and something that we continuously try to improve on, especially as a remote workforce. With monthly meetings where we report on where we stand in our product offering and ensure the team is meeting deadlines, our team is held accountable and must be comfortable working through ambiguity and uncertainty in an ever-changing work environment. - With FluentStream’s commitment to diversity & inclusion, we do not condone a clique mentality. Naturally in positions, there may be more meetings that are necessary due to the nature of the role. Our team does our best to make sure that we are hosting weekly Dev Standups to discuss ongoing projects and Tech Watercooler meetings so that the team feels engaged. Beyond the meetings, we also have an opportunity for the team to meet in person annually to continue to get to know each other for team bonding. - We are fortunate that our CTO has in-depth knowledge on how our product operates and is able to take on the role to develop the product as well. While the last couple of years has been challenging with our CTO taking on the role of managing our proprietary billing system, we have recently pivoted and introduced a new third party billing system that will be implemented soon which will free up time for our CTO to dedicate to the team. - The role of our Chief of Staff is much more than a “glorified assistant to our CTO”. He is a strategic and integral member of our Technology team. He works closely with the CTO, and helps manage and oversee cross-functional projects and initiatives related to technology exploration and acceleration while ensuring overall CTO leadership effectiveness. We hope that this helped address some of the challenges you mentioned in hopes it can provide better clarity for prospective employees. If you’d like to speak to a member of our HR team for additional context, please email hr@fluentstream.com.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a 5-star review! We deeply appreciate your kind words and are especially grateful for your long-term commitment to FluentStream over the past three years. It's truly rewarding to hear that you feel we're making impactful changes and are investing appropriately for long-term success. Your belief in the company and our CEO means a great deal to us. We also appreciate your candid feedback regarding compensation and 401k contributions, as it helps us understand our team's perspectives. Regarding the 401k match, while we're not currently in a position to offer this we've been proud to implement profit sharing contributions for the past couple of years. This is another way we aim to share our successes with the team and provide a meaningful investment in your financial future. Thank you again for your valuable contributions and for recognizing the positive direction we're heading in. We remain committed to fostering a supportive and rewarding environment for all our employees.
