Minpunten

- You will be expected to be fully up to speed after a month of arrival. If you aren’t then it will be insinuated in various ways that you’re stupid. If you keep struggling you will be isolated at first and then publicly humiliated. - If the co-founder in charge of your department doesn’t like what you’re saying then he will start to talk over you in meetings. I had to start raising my hand to speak because I got fed up of being interrupted so much. - Time zone conflicts mean meetings at 7am and 9pm will be common. C-suite will still manage to be 5-10 minutes late because their time is more important than everybody else’s. - For a company that is so new, it is surprisingly cliquey. My department consisted of myself and 3 people that had collectively worked together for roughly 10 years in previous roles. Shared history, in-jokes, and ways of working meant that I always felt left out, and that my presence was tolerated at best. I was very aware that if there were cuts, I would be the first to go. - For all the reasons above. I had to excuse myself from the office on multiple occasions due to panic attacks or sometimes to cry. - When I raised my concerns to someone in c-suite, He promised me that he was committed to my success. A month later he fired me in the same room where he made that promise. - ChatGPT was used for anything they didn’t see value in doing themselves. The email chain outlining my termination was littered with Em dashes which said a lot about their character. Quotes from management that sum up my experience “The only time I will get angry with you is when you say no to me” “How are you not getting this?” “I feel like when I speak to you only 10% of what I say goes in” I arrived at 423 excited to combine my career with something that I was passionate about. I left feeling bullied, incredibly stressed, and with thoughts of self-harm less than 3 months later.
