Maybe because the mentor is your own colleague in the same position as you and they care only about their own success and they see you more like a competition. They pretend to be supportive only in front of the senior management. Nevertheless, the salary and benefits are great, and you might have a different experience, maybe try to apply for other position, such as management trainee and don't go for the sales or retention position.
