Pluspunten
-Some of your co-workers will be cool, as is the case at all workplaces.
-Direct exposure to clients and a wide berth of business verticals.
-Potential for quick growth if you play your cards right.
Minpunten
Company culture was a strange passive aggressive environment.
-Strange relationship between staff and upper management. Everyone acts friendly but I witnessed several employee conversations expressing frustration and speaking negatively about the co-founders behind their back.
- Was told that the "Grain Way" is "figuring it out on your own". Not the place for you if you like to work with clear direction, or are starting your career.
-Witnessed an employee be chastised by a fellow co-worker, who was not their manager or their superior, on the full teams slack channel, with no intervention from upper management. This was beyond unprofessional, and to this day I am confused on why it was allowed. In my opinion, this highlights the favoritism that exists at the workplace.
-One of the direct managers, often seemed too busy to provide real guidance or mentorship. Was occasionally moody, seemed overworked, and just generally stressed. The few times I was provided guidance were insightful, I just wished it happened more.
-Pressure to attend after work happy hours. Witnessed off-handed comments made about co-workers who did not attend.
Going off the words of one of the co-founders, don't work at Grain if you are just looking for "another job". It seems like showing up and doing what you were hired to do isn't quite enough. Be prepared to invest more than that, as it is appears to be what's expected of you.
