Most stylist are booth rent or commission, great clips offers you an hourly wage, which is really nice and a relief to know you will always have a paycheck whether or not you had customers in your chair. The teamwork is really amazing. i like being so busy and not having to go out looking for customers.they also offer paid advanced training commission which is an awesome advantage, you get paid to go learn new cutting/perming/styling techniques.

Managers are abused by the general managers, told to not "break things" that are old and break. my manager will refuse to inform our GM about things that need to be fixed. For example, one of our station doors is broken because our shop is almost 10 years old and things get old. but the franchisee got mad so now we are not allowed to put things inside our stations, because that makes sense. I've been written up for being late even though i wasn't. Great clips expects you to cut under 17 mins, my store requires us to cut under 15 mins. They recommend we do one thing to save time, then when customers get upset they write us up and say they will fire us. Its a corporation, they don't care about their employees unless their following the expectations to a T, and their expectations are unreasonable. the isn't isn't that good for beginning stylist, barely above minimum wage, and i don't think experienced stylists get too much better. when i was offered the assistant manager position, they offered me a $0.50 raise. total BS.
