My interview process with Greystone was a breath of fresh air. In a lot of the interviews that I’ve been to recently, there always seems to be that one person who is angry about having to be a part of the interview process. At Greystone, everyone seemed to genuinely want to be there, asking questions, getting to know you, and generally rooting for your success.
The first interview was an HR phone screen. I was put at ease immediately and the interview was pretty easy. The main thing that was mentioned at the beginning of the conversation was that she wanted the interview to be a success and to take my time. I can’t express how often phone screens seem like the HR person is just going through the motions and that you are just another “number”. Not so here. Once the interview as over, I was told exactly what the next steps would be.
The second interview was with two senior members of the Managed IT department. It was a mix of technical and behavioral questions, which is typical for IT interviews. What wasn’t typical was the way they approached the interview process. Just like HR, they told me that they wanted me to be successful in the interview and to take my time, think as long as I needed to before answering the questions, and seemed very invested in what I had to say. After the interview was over, they gave me feedback and told me what the next steps would be.
The third, and final, interview was very unusual. It was with two people I would be working with, should I get hired. They weren’t interested so much interested in my technical capabilities but more so in who I was as a person. This helped to see if I would make a good fit for their teams and, more importantly, their clients. They wanted to know what I did when I wasn’t working, such as outdoors activities, hobbies, etc. Overall, the interview felt more like three friends talking than an interview. At the end, feedback was given, and I was told that HR would contact me when the final decision was made.
The onboarding process, given the restrictions that COVID has placed upon us, was smooth. They have a well-planned onboarding process and everyone expressed a genuine happiness that you are on their team. Absolutely fantastic process.
