I really enjoyed my time at HotDocs and only left because the commute from Salt Lake to Lindon was getting to be too much for me. The people in the Salt Lake office are so willing to share information and teach you something if you don't know it. People with different personalities still work really well together and understand that kindness goes a long way, and conflict was dealt with well. There is already ongoing product training for customers, so any new hires can get that training experience, too. It really helps to bring people up to speed more quickly. The upper management people in the Salt Lake office are really patient and willing to hear new ideas or concerns from the employees. They value what employees have to say, and communication is really open there. With a new higher-up added to the mix before I left, the company was really on track to become more unified in purpose and more transparent about what every team was working on/towards. I hardly ever worked more than 40 hours a week here. People are very focused on getting work done during normal hours, and people very much value their personal time here, which is great. The switch to agile methods is always a tough one, and it's no exception here. Long planning meetings and tension about how to get work done were regularly on the menu. Thankfully people understood the value of writing out really thorough feature requirements, so that helped mitigate a lot of the lag there tends to be between development and documentation in scrum. If you're hoping to work at home very often, this may not be the place for you. While I was allowed to work from home pretty often (because of my long commute), it was absolutely not the norm there. If you want a super social atmosphere, this may not be the place for you. Had much less work chat here than at previous jobs. Not that people are unfriendly, they're just focused on getting work done, and it's very quiet throughout the workday. It took a really long time for me to even get the process started to get a laptop. So if that's important to you, this may not be the place unless you specifically get it worked out in the offer stage.

HotDocs provides a lot of opportunities for growth. It's a great place to start your career and get lots of hands-on experience. There are a lot of really smart people at HotDocs who have deep industry knowledge (legal & banking industries). Managers want to see their employees succeed and work to get them raises. HotDocs has a 401k match, occasional free lunches, and a well kept office. You will seldom, if ever, work more than 40 hours a week at HotDocs. Work/life balance is highly valued.
