Pluspunten
"GFTO" is typically pretty open. Office space (in Rosemont) is exceptional. Corrupt American healthcare industry makes for a less volatile industry, ergo slightly better job security. Senior management does seem to legitimately care about employees. Easy promotions up to senior engineer...
Minpunten
Not just here to trash the company on glassdoor, but providing some real, honest feedback I wish I'd seen prior to turning down that other job to come here: No meaningful performance reviews (in engineering, at least). HR builds your team for you based on attributes not related to demonstrable qualification for the job. No clearly defined, objective measure for promotions - no career advancement. Most, if not all, engineers above staff have simply been with the company for 8-10+ years, not because of career experience, expertise and productivity. Because it's not a meritocracy, the place is poisoned by the need to engage in politics to advance; what you say and who you know matters quite a bit - this is the exact opposite of what makes the software engineering profession one of the fairest out there. Since your teammates may or may not be able to do their job, and there's no objective measurement of their ability to produce via performance reviews, it's likely you won't gel with your team when the lack of professionalism kicks in and you're picking up all their slack. No individual incentives through stock or bonuses: working extra hours so "the team" hits their deadlines, writing clean code and producing won't get you any more than the lowest common denominator. Just a general lack of emphasis on the importance of good people and hard work, and a focus on process and developers as a horde of interchangeable bricklayers instead.
