Pluspunten

Coworkers are very nice and supportive. The company is organized and there’s a decent culture despite everyone being remote.

Minpunten

The problem is that the pay is just abysmal. I genuinely don’t understand how anyone can afford to keep this job. You could make more working at a restaurant or coffee shop when you factor in tips. And the work expected of you is completely out of line with the pay. There’s 12 weeks of training and more and more responsibility is piled on your shoulders on a weekly basis, meanwhile you’re getting paid minimum wage. So there’s no motivation to take on more work but it’s expected of you. The added responsibility is at the discretion of the supervisor, so there’s no clear structure in place so you know what to expect and when. If you’re doing good work, you’ll be rewarded with more work. That actually creates incentive to be worse at the job so you don’t have more piled on. Handling live chats, phone calls, emails, and social media moderation at the same time - plus other tasks assigned by supervisors randomly - is not minimum wage level work. And the first red flag was honestly during my interview when I had to be the one to ask what the job paid and the interviewer seemed hesitant to tell me it was a minimum wage position. It was also a surprise to me to find out that it was a 35 hour a week position, with a one hour unpaid lunch, not 40 like I was lead to believe initially. So you’re making minimum wage at less than 40 hours a week, making the amount I took home basically equal to the poverty line in Canada. And your first paycheque won’t show up until the second pay period you’re there for (which again I wasn’t told initially, I had to ask someone). Which meant I waited a month for a paycheque that was less than my rent due the next day. Not to mention the “benefit” structure which is genuinely just insulting. You have to wait nine months to get a small health savings account. Nine months is a larger amount of time than any other company I’ve heard of. Everyone I tell that to is just shocked. Three months should be the max. Even my supervisor said they didn’t know why it was that long. Considering it’s a small company with less than 20 employees, there’s clearly a deliberate reason.

I really enjoyed my time here! The people were genuinely great, and super supportive! Everyone was really kind and passionate about their work, and managers are approachable and open to feedback. Management is very supportive of growth and they really priortise employee development. Even though it is remote, there are a few fun events throughout the year!

Minpunten

Workload can fluctuate a lot depending on client needs!

Pluspunten

In Social is by far the best job I've ever had. And I usually don't leave GD reviews because it always feels weird to me, but seeing that a previous employee (who caused havoc and was let go less than a month into their probation period) left a bad review because they were mad, I had to come here to tell people to ignore it. If you aren't at In Social to do a good job and contribute to the team, you don't belong here. My co-workers on my team (The Digital Support Squad) are always there to support me, answer questions I might have, or jump into a chat if I'm in the middle of something else. Our team Manager is approachable, friendly, knows EVERYTHING and someone can get all their work done in a day - a superhero, seriously. I also work closely with the marketing team, even though I am not trained or have experience in marketing. I get included in reviewing marketing work so I can learn, and eventually decide where I want to grow within the agency. Most CS people pick a path within the company and then get trained and promoted onto the marketing team. The current marketing team is super supportive in helping us get there. The Managers and CEO can spot someone who's trying to scam their way through a job within an instant, so that's why people let go quickly. Unfortunately, the CEO tends to give people the benefit of the doubt longer than they should! At the end of the day, if you can't hack it with the high standards every one sets for themselves, then it's better you're not here. We're such a close team that we can really feel when someone isn't pulling their weight! Even though I'm on the CS team, I never feel like I can't talk to our CEO. She has open office hours and I can book an appointment (and have) to talk to her about anything I want. It's never intimidating or scary. Our other managers are also fun and hang out with us during team events, even if we don't work with them directly. Everyone's going to have their own opinion based on their experiences, but sometimes those experiences don't paint the whole picture. Maybe mine doesn't either, but at least it's from a different view.

Minpunten

There's so much to learn at first, because the company does so much, but we have lots of people to train you up and go over things again if you need it. It can also get very hectic with CS but that's typical of a job like this.
