One has the privilege of working alongside individuals of remarkable intellect and talent… however, their numbers are steadily diminishing, whether through the scourge of redundancies or by their own volition, as they elect to escape the stifling toxicity of this workplace.

It all began in a most splendid fashion, akin to the grand premiere of a Hollywood blockbuster, when Inbenta (US/Spain) acquired Horizn (Canada). With employees spanning across Europe, Canada, and the United States, there was an abundance of promises—visions of growth, assurances of no redundancies, plans for expansion, and, quite frankly, the kind of dreams one dares to believe at the outset. However, those with experience swiftly recognized that it was, indeed, too good to be true. There were warning signs from the very beginning. Nepotism... an issue well known to current employees—was evident, having been remarked upon on numerous occasions. Individuals lacking the requisite expertise found themselves in positions of authority, seemingly by virtue of familial or personal connections rather than merit. What followed was a relentless series of managerial upheavals—so many, in fact, that one loses count. CMO, CFO, COO, CRO…one after another, their departures signalled that something was undoubtedly amiss. Then, there was the deterioration of workplace culture. In all my years of professional experience, I have never encountered leadership quite so inept. There were constant threats, incessant finger-pointing, and a ceaseless game of blame-shifting. Rather than addressing the root causes of the organization’s challenges, changes were implemented haphazardly, with restructuring pursued for the sake of action rather than meaningful improvement.
