You've raised a lot of important topics and since you are a current employee, we encourage you to help make KVC an even stronger organization by reaching out to your on-site Human Resources manager. He can help elevate any concerns you have so that local leaders are aware, and he can also help champion ideas that will make KVC a great place to work.
As you know from firsthand experience, providing direct care to children and teenagers at a psychiatric hospital is challenging work. That is the nature of the job regardless of employer or location. At KVC, we take several steps to help employees succeed in the behavioral health technician (BHT) role including providing a substantial amount of training and putting in place safety measures (for example, ensuring that employees who are helping a client that may be prone to aggressive behavior is accompanied by other employees, rather than alone with the client). Safety for both clients and employees is our goal and we will continue to pursue that.
It sounds like we could be doing a better job of educating prospective employees about what is involved in the BHT role. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
