Over my 2 years at Ketchum, I had zero increase in salary or job title, and zero bonuses, despite my level of responsibility and workload dramatically increasing. I was a hard-worker, and constantly wanted to work above and beyond to increase my chances of growing quickly and proving my potential, this includes working consistently over time and managing projects without senior support. Senior leadership was aware of my eagerness to grow and used this ambition like a carrot dangling in front of me, constantly being assured that I'd be promoted but never coming to fruition. The company's reasoning was that they had promotion freezes due to not reaching targets that year (to the suffering of its hard working employees). However, they were allowed to hire new people to replace the ones that abandoned the sinking ship, and these new hires were offered competitive salaries above what was being paid to the loyal employees that had to wait until the freeze was over. During this depressing period, Ketchum even had the audacity to put itself up for the "UK best place to work awards", which seamed impossible after witnessing the outcome of the 2024 employee satisfaction survey that proved how miserable people were about their careers there. My mental health was seriously affected during my time at Ketchum due to the mental games, lack of transparency, and constant state of anxiety of whether I would ever be rewarded for my hard work by simply being given the title that I was working at the capacity of. It turns out I never did, and I had to leave. Ketchum will claim that the lack of career growth was out of their hands and that there was nothing they could do. So, for any individuals that are considering a career at Ketchum, it's up to you to decide if you want to work for a company that have zero ability to advocate for their employees and who willingly accept a terrifying turnover.
